Earth Resource Satellite Platform Engineer VEGA GmbH / ESA Performed routine maintenance of all subsystems on spacecraft bus. Consulted ESA staff of new requirements. Advisor to ESA staff on failures in hardware or degradation of performance. Represented ESOC when meeting with spacecraft manufacturer and other agencies to discuss spacecraft performance, design, and contingencies. Updated and maintained ERS flight simulator with each flight software or hardware change. · Worked with Flight Dynamics Department to predict ageing of on-board gyroscopes and hydrazine supply. Führung von 10 Vollzeitangestellten. · Tested, corrected, and uplinked Mono-Gyro Attitude Control Software. · Tested, corrected, and uplinked the first Gyroless Attitude Control Software ever to control a LEO 3-axis satellite. · Presented the first Gyroless Maneuver Mode feasibility study to ESA/Astrium Engineering Review Board. · Independently verified and validated safe procedure for uplink of Zero-Gyro Maneuver Mode. · Considered team expert with AOCS, EPS, Thermal, DHSS, and Communication subsystems. · Through simulation and on orbit experience, determined tension load to be added to rotating Solar Array to minimize oscillation during Zero-Gyro Mode attitude control, thus reducing yaw deviation that it induced and allowing science data collection. |

Spacecraft Systems Engineer, Landsat-7 Allied Signal Technical Services/NASA/NOAA Flight Operations Team Lead Engineer for the Attitude Control, Propulsion, Electrical Power(28V), and Thermal Subsystems. · Performed flight software validation and verification with Lockheed-Martin during Integration and Test phase of spacecraft development, as well as Sine Vibration and Thermal Vacuum testing. · Tested OBC for launch sequence through separation from Delta 2 and deployable functional verification with NASA and contractor personnel, verifying safety, reliability, and survivability of subsystems and payload during launch. · Determined safest configuration and power-up timing of on-board components. · Verified deployables such as HGA and the very large Solar Array would extend after launch stress by post sine vibration test cleanroom deployment. · Identified key issues with software non-conformance for NASA management. Reviewed Interface Control Documents to assure accuracy. · Worked on console to support launch operations and early orbit calibration/check-out. · Wrote software for ground system to safely operate the above subsystems and trained Spacecraft Controllers in operation of these subsystems. · Reviewed, updated Operations Control Documentation. · Evaluated attitude control subsystem equipment operational function, limitations, and possible failures and contingency operations, and established anomaly recovery procedures for post-launch operations. · Helped develop requirements for, simulated function of electrical power and AOCS subsystems. · Interfaced with parts suppliers when performance or safety concerns in these subsystems arose. · Identified ground testing issues and recommended solutions. · Developed software simulator with two other teammates to assure accurate subsystem modeling and failure mode transitions. · Simulator modelled all bus engineering functions, including power generation and storage through day/night cycles, ground station contacts, attitude and orbit adjustments, appendage occultations, thermal cycles, failure and recovery modes. · Identified risks to mission success based on second stage burn failure, reignition failure. |
