A Russian cargo ship arrived safely at the International Space Station early Sunday, easing concerns about a potential supply shortage after consecutive mission failures. Local 6 News partner Florida Today says the un-piloted Progress 60 spacecraft carrying more than 3 tons of food, fuel and spare parts docked at the orbiting research complex at 3:11 a.m. Eastern time, two days after launching from Kazakhstan.

NASA has joined a multi-agency field campaign studying summer storm systems in the U.S. Great Plains to find out why they often form after the sun goes down instead of during the heat of the day. The Plains Elevated Convection at Night, or PECAN, project began June 1st and continues through mid-July.

After three failed attempts to deliver supplies to the International Space Station in the last year, a Russian Progress spacecraft loaded with 2.4 tons of food, water, oxygen, fuel, and scientific instruments is due to dock there July 5. Roskosmos, the Russian space agency, said the craft is on schedule to dock itself. But if anything goes wrong, Russian cosmonauts Gennady Padalka and Mikhail Korniyenko will dock it manually.

Astronomers using the Hubble Space Telescope recently completed the largest and most sensitive survey of dust surrounding young star systems. The survey zoomed-in on stars that are between 10 million to 1 billion years old and the source of the dust is thought to be the left-over debris from planet, asteroid and comet collisions after systems of planets have formed.
