August 2006 – September 2007 System Engineer for the Joint Definition Phase of Hyperspectral Mission (phase A) Responsible for the system specification of the overall ground-segment (mission planning, satellite monitor and control and user ground segment). Activities I undertook were: • Analysis of the overall ground segment system requirements and definition of the architectural design; • Definition of ground-segment element system requirements document; • Definition of ground-segment element interfaces; • Preliminary ground-segment cost estimation for the mission life cycle. Within the task of this assignment, I have consolidated trade-off analysis and system requirements definitions with respect a complete ground-segment. These activities was held within an international joint team both of agencies (Italian Space Agency and Candadian Space Agency) and of satellite compancy (mainly MDA, Thales-Alenia). January 2005 – December 2006 Occupation or position held Project Manager for the Upgrade of the Telespazio MATERA Multi-mission Ground Station Main activities and responsibilities Responsible for the upgrade of the Telespazio multi-mission ground station for the acquisition and processing of ENVISAT-ASAR and MODIS (TERRA-AQUA) data (about 500 KEuro of total budget) in near real-time. Activities I undertook were: Analysis of the multi-mission ground station baseline and trade-off analysis for the definition of the improvements to be realized; • Preparation and revision of the statement of work documents for the procurements of the new items to be integrated in the ground-station (Acquisition Antenna, Intermediate Frequency matrix, ENVISAT-ASAR direct ingestion, processing and archive/cataloguing); • Analysis of the proposals and technical contribution to the selection of suppliers; • Procurement Life-Cycle management and project control, including assessment of the progress activities and determination of earned value; • Chairing of planned milestones and of technical meeting, evaluation of delivered documentation (RID generation, discussion with the supplier and disposition activities for close-out). • Attendance of acceptance reviews. Covering this role, I have gained experience in the design of complete payload data processing systems with major emphasis to requirements concerning with near real-time services. This upgrade of the Telespazio Matera Ground-station has become fundamental for the forecoming Telespazio activities in the near real-time services and nowadays it is the core of the system which is continuosly evolving for supporting new services and new satellite missions. September 2003 – July 2006 Manager of COSMO-SkyMed Processing Facilities Developments Responsible for the procurement of the Stripmap, Spotlight and ScanSAR Synthetic Aperture Radar standard products (level 0, 1A, 1B, 1C and 1D) processing facilities (about 2.1 MEuro of total budget) in the framework of the Civilian and Defence User Ground Segment for the COSMO-SkyMed Italian Space Agency program. Activities I undertook were: • Preparation and revision of the Statement of Work documents for the invitation to tender; • Analysis of the proposals and technical contribution to the selection of the suppliers; • Procurement Life-Cycle management and project control, including assessment of the progress activities and determination of earned value; • Chairing of planned milestones and of technical meeting, evaluation of delivered documentation (RID generation, discussion with the supplier and disposition activities for close-out); • Attendance of qualification reviews (factory acceptance test) and verification of the software requirements; • Management of request for deviation and engineering change proposal according to overall ground-segment requirement evolution. January 2002 – December 2004 System Engineer for the COSMO-SkyMed SAR Standard Products Engineering Responsible for the system engineering of the Stripmap, Spotlight and ScanSAR Synthetic Aperture Radar standard products (level 0, 1A, 1B, 1C and 1D) processing facilities in the framework of the Civilian and Defence User Ground Segment for the COSMO-SkyMed Italian Space Agency mission. Activities I undertook were: • Analysis of higher level system requirements and of SAR product specifications; • High-Performance Computing analysis of SAR processing algorithms and of processing algorithm prototypes; • Definition of processing facilities software requirements and of a reference architectural design; • Contribution to the overall system engineering. In this role, I gained experience related to the UML (Unified Modeling Language) software development methodologies for system analysis and architectural design related to ground facilities. I also face with parallel programming issues related to the computational complexity of SAR processing algorithms. I have also been the team leader of a small group of persons (varying from 2 to 5 peoples) for covering tasks related to these activities, so having also experiences in resources assignment, coordination and control.
