GKN Aerospace, Melbourne, Australia May 2005 – Apr 2008
Detailed design, Stress analysis, FEM analysis
- Lockheed Martin F-35; detail design of subsystem components and fixtures, structural analysis of metallic primary centre fuselage structure, revision and refinement of full aircraft FEA loads model, structural and deflection analysis of composite aerodynamic inlet surfaces.
- Mid-sized business jet; revision of full aircraft FE loads model with inclusion of refined leading edge structure and loads, structural analysis of metallic leading edge skins and substructure.
- Support for R&D work in automating time consuming FEM and classical analysis setup, coordination of external suppliers for research activities.
RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia Apr 2004 – May 2005
Research, Conceptual design, Component testing
- Research conducted into Smart Energy Systems was a collaborative project between RMIT and DSTO. Initial development of a passive system to scavenge small quantities of electrical energy from either large operational processes or the surrounding environment to provide an alternative electrical supply to a number of small devices.
Aerosonde, Melbourne, Australia Aug 2002 – Nov 2002
Research & development, Detailed design, Parts assemblies, Component testing
- R&D work was mostly experimental and involved assembly and testing of various aircraft components.
- Engineering work included the detail design of a mounting system, incorporating pitch/yaw control and a 6-dof load cell, to be used in planned wind tunnel tests of the aircraft.
MAN Technologie AG, Augsburg, Germany Jan 2002 – Jun 2002
FEM analysis, Stress analysis, Automated analysis tools
- Fairchild Dornier DO728 Tailcone; FEM interrogation and stress analysis of exhaust mounting and skin/stringers.
- Ariane 5 Frontskirt; Systemized structure interpretation and process cycle plans for the test schedule, creation of an Excel and Visual Basic based program designed to read, interpret, sort and process raw test data before automatically correlating against the FE analysis data and finally generating reports for all results - a process which saved extensive man-hours in manual processing time.
Bechtel Engineering Services, Portland, Australia Dec 2000 – Feb 2001
Stress analysis, Detailed design, CAD, SOW documents, Inspections, Subcontractor liaison
- Engineering work included; structural design and analysis of an overhead crane, fluid dynamic analysis for cooling tower pipelines, CAD design work for a new concept to improve process/production efficiency.
