    Area of research

Working in the JRC DESERT action on the set up of a European Drought Observatory (EDO).

Within this group, I am in charge of developing processing systems for EO data processing for environmental monitoring, with a focus on operational drought monitoring. In particular, I am developing algorithms for the exploitation of Earth Observation data and their integration with other information for the operational production of drought-related indicators (e.g. vegetation stress, soil moisture).

Data used are collected by different optical sensors (MERIS and MODIS) and radar remote sensing (soil moisture estimations from ERS scatterometers) and processed on a LINUX cluster to harmonize and integrate them and produce new information (composite indicator). MERIS data are delivered through the ESA Service Support Environment (SSE). Algorithms are coded in IDL (also object oriented) and LINUX Bash.
