The planned Falcon 9 rocket launch scheduled from Vandenberg Air Force Base this summer is in limbo after another NASA mission ended in failure following liftoff from Florida. The Jason-3 satellite to continue measurements of the height of the ocean surface had been scheduled for Aug. 8 from Space Launch Complex-4 on South Base.

Astronauts on the International Space Station have a number of exercise options, including a mechanical bicycle bolted to the floor, a weightlifting machine strapped to the wall, and a strap-down treadmill. They spend a significant portion of each day working out to ward off the long-term effects of weightlessness, but many still suffer bone loss, muscle atrophy, and issues with balance and their cardiovascular systems.

Just a little over two minutes after launching on Sunday, the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket and unmanned Dragon cargo vehicle burst into flames, spewing fiery debris into the sky over Florida and incinerating 5,200 pounds of supplies, research, and hardware. The spacecraft was a resupply vehicle carrying the first docking port designed for future commercial crew capsules, a new spacesuit, and a water filtration system to the International Space Station .

The bright light that streaked across skies throughout the American Southeast early Monday morning was probably a piece of space junk crashing back to Earth, researchers say. The mysterious sky light blazed up at 1:29 a.m. EDT Monday and was witnessed by skywatchers from Louisiana to Virginia - and by all six meteor-observing cameras operated by NASA in the Southeast.
