    CAREER OBJECTIVE

    I am keen to begin my career in Space Engineering and Astrophysics. Currently studying for a degree in this area while combining studies with working and other commitments. In completing my degree I will show that I am a keen, self-motivated and determined individual in obtaining my goals.     PRACTICAL SKILLS GAINED DURING THE DEGREE:

    • The ability to conduct scientific research on astronomical level, including identifying needed data, acquiring this data and analysing it for the purposes of the research. This was developed during the Physics Project Laboratory where I conducted research on the Sun using free-for-use data from the SOHO telescope, this also applied for Multimedia for astronomy and Image Processing using different sources available.

    • Image processing skills and programming skills using a variety of languages (MatLab, Fortran 77, Fortran 90, etc)

    • Project management skills using in Space-related businesses and their application, including team leadership and team work used as Project Manager for the final year Bsc Physics Group Project.

    March 2006 – Administrator to the NHS Mental Health Trust, Brook Street Agency

    • Temporary Worker for Brook Street Agency assigned to various companies as needed. Current position as the assistant to Canterbury Enhanced Team Manager and Administrator to the team under the NHS Mental Health Sector.

    • Duties include maintaining track of team member allocations to clients, assisting the manager in financial items, maintaining patient records, maintaining patient Care Programme Approach (CPA) data for team members, minuted high-level sensitive meetings (both client based and management based). Held this assignment since September 2006 and is an ongoing placement.

    • Previous assignments include Retail Assistant for “The Derbyshire” Building Society, Admin support for the NHS Crisis Assessment & Treatment Team (CATT).


    September 2005 – October 2006 – Licensed Trade Assistant, Kent Union, University Of Kent

    • Duties included tending a busy night club bar “The Venue” for the University Of Kent’s Student’s Union. Also included Reception work and Front Of House



    February 2004 – September 2005 – Retail Assistant/Temp. Team Leader, Alton Towers Hotels, Staffordshire

    • Position included the operation of several retail and arcade units over two hotels and Water Park. Reporting to Retail Manager or Duty Manager for Hotels

    • Further into the job role advanced to supervising/assistant management of shifts, units and staff

    • Recognition given for excellent performance during stressful situations and dealing with customers in an appropriate manner. Recognition received from senior management.

    • Recognition given for providing technical support (with aid from outside companies) for photo systems and gaming machines and giving basic computer training for managers/team leaders.

    • Other duties included dealing with customer complaints/enquiries, managing staff, dealing with various companies who delivered services and/or goods to the hotel retail department. This was done either in person, email or over telephone.

    • Position included aiding senior staff and management in various departments including Catering, Reception, Administration, Housekeeping and Children’s Activities

    INTERESTS

    • Treasurer of Kent University's Space Society organising event days/nights using society observatories and rocketry workshops. Also organising trips of scientific interest outside of the UK. In 2005 I ran a trip to ESA's Testing and Manufacturing site (ESTEC) in Holland and in early 2007 I ran a trip to CERN, Switzerland for members.

    • I enjoy water sports, such as sailing and surfing and as such I am the Captain for the Kent University Surf Club.

    • I have enjoyed in interest in student affairs and activities and as such have previously been on several committee's within Kent's student union including Societies Federation Committee and Union Council (the highest decision making body next to the student population itself)
