    Since February 2005

    Payloads IntegrationManager - responsible on behalf of ESA (European Space Agency) for the operations and the utilization of the Fluid Science Laboratory (FSL) - the fluid physics experiments laboratory for the International Space Station’s Columbus module - and for the integration of the relevant experiments.

    The activity performed consists in the management of the program assigned budget, the schedule and the work packages execution coordination.

    Detailed tasks for this job are:

    -          develop, maintain and analyze project schedules and project plans to support project goals,

    -          ensure proper coordination, prioritization and communication of project objectives,

    -          lead multifunctional team,

    -          manage days-to-days aspects of project,

    -          manage budget responsibilities,

    -          develop strategic initiatives toward continuous performance improvement, customer satisfaction and profit improvement,

    -          develop customer interface and relationship and work with customer to ensure project meets customer requirement,

    -          manage the flight and ground payload operations,

    -          ensure compliance with the mission requirements and operational interface agreements,

    -          coordinate the production of payload operations products (procedures, displays) and training of the operations teams,

    -          support the preparation of the payload mission timeline and the activities planning,

    -          process and implement engineering changes,

    -          support and participate in validation and verification activities in preparation for the mission,

    -          manage and direct the Operations team (industry and ground segment personnel),

    -          develop business for companies and universities involved in Space research.

     

    Since December 2003

    System Engineering Manager, responsible for the design and development activities of the Fluid Science Laboratory. The role consists in the technical, programmatic and financial management of the project and in the definition and control of the industrial activities.

    The responsibilities cover the engineering team coordination, the negotiation with the customer, the subcontractor companies’ management.

    From July to November 2004

    Payload Integration Manager for ENEIDE, a telecommunication experiment installed on board the International Space Station, part of the Italian Soyuz Mission on April 2005. The activity performed consists in the responsibility on behalf of ESA for the experiment development, integration and scientific utilization.

    From January to November 2004

    Project Manager, responsible for the design and development of the FSL Training Model, a hardware/software integrated dynamic simulator to train the astronauts in the exercise of the Fluid Science Laboratory.

    The activity covers the project technical plan and coordination, the team management, the user requirements analysis, the system architecture definition.

    From September 2001 to June 2004

    Software Engineering Manager, responsible for the coordination of the activities related to the on-board software development for the following projects:

    -          The Fluid Science Laboratory;

    -          EUROBOT, the robot for the support to the ISS crew extra-vehicular activities;

    -          RADARSAT, a satellite system for ground survey and defence;

    -          EXPERT, European Experimental Re-entry Test Bed, a ballistic cap demonstrator to carry out experiments during the earth atmosphere re-entry phase;

    -          HERSCHEL & PLANCK, a two scientific satellites program for the study of the origin and evolution of the Universe;

    -          A telemetry data acquisition equipment installed on board a Formula-1 car;

    -          NODE2, a pressurized module for the ISS acting as interconnecting element among the various ISS units;

    -          MPLM, Multi-Purpose Logistics Module, the habitable module that carries out the logistics support to the ISS.

    The task spaces from the entire project definition and technical management to the interface with the Customer (ESA, ASI, NASA), to the plan, coordination and control of the subcontractor’s and development team activities.

     

    From January to December 2003

    Proposal & Study Manager for the following Phase 0/A programmes related to the ISS (customers ESA and ASI):

    -          FLECS, a pressurized module equipped with an innovative system to expand the habitable space;

    -          HABITATION, a large habitable module to provide a liveable environment to the crew for working and amusing;

    -          IHAB, Inflatable Habitat, an inflatable module to increase the available space on board the ISS;

    -          CLV, Commercial Logistic Vehicle, a vehicle to access the ISS, as alternative to the Space Shuttle.

    The activity consists in the analysis of mission requirements and definition of system requirements, in the high-level architectural design definition and the related rating in terms of cost and duration.

     

    From March 1999 to September 2001

    Responsible for the on-board software & operations training activities relevant to the MPLM at NASA-JSC, Houston (USA).

    In the same period, responsible (as Team Leader) for the real-time support to the MPLM flight missions. In that context, the acquired skills mainly cover the flight & ground operations activities for space mission and the coordination of multi-disciplines team.

    From June 1997 to February 1999

    Software Engineer, responsible for the requirements specification, validation and verification of the MPLM on-board software. The task covers the on-board software design, development, integration and verification, the definition of the hardware/software interfaces, the software development life-cycle (standards, methods and tools).
