    1. Estimation Precipitable Water Vapour in Real Time using dual frequency GPS receiver. (Department 0f Science and Technology, Government of India, sanctioned)
The Global Positioning System (GPS) basically used for positioning applications, has diverse applications, the estimation of PWV is one of most promising among them. The GPS satellite signals refract and get delayed while traveling through the atmosphere. The part of the delay is due to water vapour. The water vapour delay can be accurately estimated from the GPS data and is used for various meteorological applications.
Role: GPS data is processed using GAMIT GPS data processing software. GAMIT is command line, LINUX OS software. The algorithms were designed and software around GAMIT was developed to make it handy in real time applications. The software is equipped with Graphical User friendly Interface.
    Teamsize: 3.
    Platform: LINUX
    Languages: C, Bash Shell Script
    Duration: 3 years (till date)

2.GPS Sonde, for computing wind speed and wind direction – Atmosphere Wind Profiling, for the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The GPS Receiver Module GPS-41ML, a 12 channel with onboard antenna programmed to give GPS data in NMEA format when connected via RS 232. The PGGA frame of NMEA data is used for computing Wind Speed and Direction. The Latitude, Longitude and Height above Sea Level are extracted at an interval of 1 second. The GPS chip is WAAS enabled, since the data of Indian Augmentation System is currently not available, we use the DGPS (Differential GPS correction) technique. A Geodetic GPS receiver, Trimble 4000 SSI is used as Base station and the corrections are applied to GPS chip. The synchronous data of both Base and GPS chip are processed in Trimble Geomatic Office software to obtain corrections. The corrections are applied to the GPS chip readings.
    Teamsize: 2.
    Platform: Windows
    Software: Trimble Geomatic Office
    Duration: 2 years (till date)

    3. Design ofalgorithms for Autocomputation System for MARK 4 Radiosondes for the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The Autocomputation System acquires radiosonde and rawin data from the radio theodolite system during balloon ascent and computes the meteorological parameters in real time. The system was to be designed to acquire and process the data equipped with data analysing capabilities. The system is capable of generating the records for altitudes, temperature, humidity every 2 second and balloon azimuth, elevation angles along with meteorological data as par the India Meteorology Department requirements to automate there work. The quality of the data and the processed output was assured with the development of QA/QC algorithms.
Role: Responsible for development of algorithms for quality assurance of the input radiosonde data for the atmospheric parameters (World Meteorological Organisation reports). Further, analysis of the various data sets for the Indian region and quality checking of the output products.
    Teamsize: 3.
    Platform: Windows XP
    Languages: C
    Duration: 2 year

    4. Design ofalgorithms for Upper Air Data Analysis Software for the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
This is Utility software for Auto Computation Software. This software is used for plotting of IMD Tephigram and Hodograph. This software is capable to compute and display around 50 Thermodynamic and Kinematic parameters for getting a comprehensive glance of the current weather situation and to do forecasting about Thunderstorm occurrence, Expected Maximum and Minimum Temperature of Day.
Role: Responsible for development of algorithms to Generate Tephigram, Hodograph and to compute various Thermodynamic and Kinematic parameters, viz. CAPE, CINE, Super-adiabatic Lapse Rate, BRN, Storm Relative Helicity, Vorticity Generation Parameter, SWEAT index, K-Index, LCL, LFC, EL levels etc…
    Teamsize: 3
    Platform: Windows XP
    Languages: C
    Duration: 1 year (till date)

    5. Development, Test and Validation of Pilot Balloon Data Processing Instrument and Software for the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Pilot Balloon is used to obtain wind speed and direction in the vertical. The Pilot Balloon attached with a radio transmitter sends azimuth, elevation and graticule (day flights) angles. The data is manually entered in a Hand Held Data Logger (HHDL). The data logger is programmed to compute wind speed and directions from the input azimuth, elevation and graticule data. The output is also coded as Pilot Message by HHDL. The data can be entered, processed, edited and transferred to PC from HHDL. The PC based software quality checks the data and reprocesses to obtain various parameters at standard pressure levels.
Role: The HHDL was critically checked and tested for various conditions. The data processed by PC based software to obtain the final output was validated using standard values and also with those computed by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for a number of data sets.
The above tests were conducted in planned manner considering WMO laid criteria for Upper Air Data in order to make the HHDL and the software at par with the International Standards.
    Teamsize: 3
    Platform: Windows XP
    Languages: C
    Duration: 2 years
