Engineering Consultant for Thales Alenia Space (Advanced Project Unit)

 

Main activities and responsibilities

-         STEPS: it is a partnership involving Thales Alenia Space Turin and Small Medium sized Enterprises belonging to the Piedmont Space District. I am team coordinator for the realization of an active shock absorber for landing gear systems, and for rover suspensions, with energy recovery capability. I am also team coordinator for the improvement of inflatable technologies to be utilized in space or planetary missions. The project STEPS will last three years having as final goal the realization of physical demonstrators for the developed technologies.

-         Pressurised Lunar Rover (PLR): The study, financed by ESA, is focused on the design of a manned moon rover, able to explore the Moon for scientific purposes and capable to sustain the Moon colonization efforts. My role is to support the system engineer in the design and coordination tasks.

-         Landing System Development - ESA study: I am part of the team involved in the design, test and realization (technological demonstrator) of a legged landing system for Moon missions. The study aims to the development of European know-how in the frame of the future Moon and Mars missions.

-         Future Spacecraft Study: this is an ESA study regarding new technologies and methodologies to be applied to future S/C, in cooperation with French division of Thales Alenia Space. My duty was to analyze and identify possible future technological and operational trends to reduce Development and Manufacturing costs.

-         Next Lunar Lander with in-situ science and mobility – Phase A: I was part of the team in charge to support French division of Thales Alenia Space. In particular I was part of the structural team in charge to identify the optimal configuration to fulfil mass and structural mission requirements.
