Specialising in the design support, stressing, lightning strike and failure investigation of advanced structures and mechanical systems, experience and skills include ;

 

n     Certification Engineering.

n     FE modelling, static and dynamic analysis.

n     Specifying, supervising and reporting material, structural and lightning strike testing.

n     Hand stressing.

n     Preparation of Analysis, Stress,  Lightning Strike and Test Reports, presentation at Design Reviews.

n     Denel Saab Aerospace, Johannesburg, SA. A400M Wing to Fuselage Fairing. Certification Engineer. Lightning Strike, composite coupon and structural component testing. Support for chief engineer for presentations and certification documentation to Airbus.

 

 

n     DASA, Bremen (7+years). Ariane 5 second stage cryogenic fuel lines and engine thrust frame. Preparation and maintenance of Design and Qualification Review document packs. Static and Dynamic Analysis with NASTRAN/PASTRAN. Dynamic test supervision and reporting. Secretary of Critical Design Reviews.  Reworking of stress reports with negative margins.

 

n     UK Ministry of Defence. Failure investigations on aircrew helmets,  safety systems, aircraft braking systems. Reliability assessment exercises of crew safety systems.

 

n     Dowty Space Projects, Wolverhampton. Titanium satellite fuel tanks, Artemis, XMM, Integral. Static and dynamic FEA using  NASTRAN/PATRAN and fracture mechanics using ESACRACK.

 

n     Dowty Space Projects, Wolverhampton.  Fuel tank vibration fixtures, XMM, Eurostar 2000, 3000. Design and analysis of jigs and structural models, supervision of vibration testing at European Space Agency, Holland, IABG, Munich and MMS Portsmouth.

 

n     BMW-RR, Berlin. Composite components on 715 aircraft engine. Stress and dynamics involving NASTRAN/PATRAN.

 

n     Lucas Research Centre, Birmingham. Development of  composite drive shaft for Airbus wing flap system. Design, analysis with NISA and test supervision.

 

n     Bridport Aviation Products Ltd. Aircraft pallet and cargo hold nets. Stress analysis and CAA certification documentation and meetings.

 

n     Cranfield Impact Centre. Vehicle impact projects,  Lotus Elan, Volvo 850, Plaxton coach.  NISA, DYNA3D, KRASH software for analysis plus full scale experimental.

Development of advanced composite structures for MOD, British Gas, Lotus, RAE Farnborough etc. Teaching  aircraft structures and failure processes  to MSc and short course students.
