Head of Heavy Helicopters License Engineering and Service Engineering Dept., from July 2007

Responsible and Lead Project Eng., of Project Engineers involved on CH47, HH3F e SH3D helicopters design programs.

Responsible of Service Engineers involved on CH47, HH3F e SH3D helicopters maintenance programs.

AgustaWestland, Civil and Military Helicopters Design and Production, Somma Lombardo, VA (ITALY)

Project Engineer, from February 2004 to July 2007

-         Helicopter delivery after reconfiguration completion in accordance to contractual requirement. Technical supervision of acceptance and aircraft No.1 delivery. Management of technical additional requirements raised during the final phase from customer commission (from United Arab Emirates).

-         Qualification path completion for the first helicopter (prototype) of fleet. Management of the final-balance-reports issue. Coordination and management of the engineering department resources tasked for:

o        Technical information transferring to technical manuals and editorial staff department

o        Validation of the helicopter technical manuals

o        Technical information transferring to the training Academy Department

Management for technical meetings held with factory flight team composed by Pilots and Flight Test Engineers. Build up of technical requirement for the execution of flight-tests. Pre-flight briefing management. Participation for some of the early flight test trials in order to instruct pilots and provide all required technical information. Post-flight de-briefing management. Technical and operative responsibility for the whole design modifications set raising from flights results and pilots’ evaluations. Management of engineering and designing department, coordination of the whole project itself. Technical focal point for the workshop team tasked for first-time-installations, prototypical trials of those modifications and for the design optimization by an empirical approach.

-         Technical resources management. Management of ground-testing phase scheduling, as technical team leader, during the qualification of the project on first aircraft. Cooperation with Quality Department Responsible and Workshop Production Heads. Empirical validation of ground testing procedures.

-         Management of Technical Meetings held with customer in order to accomplish contractual milestones as Qualification Meeting Reviews (QMR). Technical documentation preparation for the bid of qualification requirements proposal and annexed scheduling to be agreed with customer. On qualification environment background for the upgrading-project, management of: laying-out, editing and issuing for Preventative Ground Testing Reports on the prototype-machine.

-         Team leader for design activities, structural calculation, experimental tests. Technical and performance evaluations of helicopter subsystems engineering. Project Management for the development of structural components, electrical wirings and hydraulics routing. Customer Reference focal point for all kind of engineering/configuration issues. Coordination of Product Engineering contents to be submitted and analyzed by Project Technical Analysis, during the sourcing phase. Management for the editing and revising activities concerning technical reports. Reference focal point for technicians and engineering team for structural reinforcement implementation/modifications, analysis and product development.

-         Coordination of technical information flow with Licensing OEM: BOEING. Technical Representative and Focal Point for the management of internal factory queries to BOEING and vice-versa, technical liaison with partner-companies.

-         Management of designing and engineering phase for the upgrade-project. Coordination of meetings with the heads of each designing area in order to achieve customer-focused-requirements and produce related technical evaluations and choices. Technical meetings with design-engineers involved on the project. Coordination of: evaluation, checking and issuing of drawings and analysis reports (structural, electrical load analysis, vibration levels, thermal loads, aerodynamics loads, water-landing loads).

Management of workshop technical documentation as: Fault Signals/Remarks, Malfunction Reports, Engineering Orders Modifications, P/N Superseded, Production Permits, Non Conformity Notes, Quality Acceptance Reports for Buyer Furnished Equipments and configuration management.

-         Management of Technical Meetings held with customer in order to accomplish contractual milestones as Critical Design Reviews (CDR). Requirement locking and aircraft configuration freezing. Accomplishment of technical presentations, impact studies, plans and scheduling for the configuration modifications merging into the industrial flow, planning for prototypical installations.

-         Technical meetings with the customer engineering pool for: requirement refining, technical choices presentation/explanation. Time and cost impact evaluation upon each technical option available or work hypothesis. PRELIMINARY DESIGN REVIEWS – preparation of technical presentations, feasibility studies, management of meetings held with the end-user for configuration refining.

-         Early contacts and preliminary meetings with European and American vendors and furnishers (as Collins, Piaggio, Avitronics, FlirSystems, 3M, AarCargo, Alturdyne, Breeze, Chelton, Cmc, FNHerstal, Freeflight, Kannad, Howell, Moog, Magnaghi, Onboard, Honeywell, Selex, Simula, Robertson, Smiths, Spectrolab, Tactronics, Textron, Thales, etc.). Identification of the essential set of technical documentation necessary to the engineering. Meetings management and their coordination with Procurement Departments, Logistics and Materials Planning Department. Certification of conformity to technical specification of each product purchased.

-         Technical Information Server Database maintenance. Technical Information sharing for the whole team spread over Italian territory and linked to AgW intranet network.

-         Coordination of the international design-engineering team involving the partner-company Westland.

-         Engineering Team Leadership. Coordination of the whole set of activities of a dedicated-designing-group that was outsourced (almost 25 persons from a consultancy-engineering-firm). Design concepts development. Structural calculations. Proposal analysis and evaluation of customer specifications/requirements. Feasibility determination of each project. Evaluation of all designing-options for each of customer-requested-installation.

-         Planning and coordination of scheduling and deadlines for the entire design activity. Planning and coordination of scheduling and deadlines in terms of results and drawings delivery towards Production Engineering and Workshop. Coordination with the Production Responsible and the Program Management.

-         Cooperation with the Institute of Space Simulation of Deutschen Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt DLR of Köln and OHB Systems company from Bremen. Design, planning, integration, development and experimental data acquisition, for the Official Thermal Tests of NetLander International Space Mission to Mars. -         Completion of the conclusive academic thesis-work entitled “Investigation on Convective Thermal Exchange into the Martian Environment for NetLander Project” concerning with thermal design optimization of NetLander main module.

-         Validation of numerical models implemented into NetLander thermally simulative Master File. Comparative tests between experimental results and numerical predictions extrapolated from calculation. Correction and refining of numerical models.
