Project / Thesis Work:

  1. Designed and constructed children calibration phantoms for whole body counters (Master thesis work). To make a precise estimation of activity in infants and small children, which was previously often based on the calibrations for 70 kg adults. These phantoms will be especially useful for calibrating body counters with unfavourable measuring geometries.

  1. Worked for the data collection on Anthropometric properties of infants and small children (Master project work). Characterized useful facts for the anthropometric properties in small children. That is useful for design and construction of calibration phantoms for calibrating mobile and whole body counters.

  1. Designed and construction of Minto wheel – Final Year Project (Bachelor Degree) that runs on small temperature gradients to produce useful power. Such small temperature gradients can easily be produced from waste heat of power plants.

Industrial & Research Experience:

Summer Intern, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited

(Jul 2001 - Aug 2001)

*        Analysed advanced manufacturing processes used for making high precision tools used in cockpit units of Airbuses and Fighter planes.

*        Characterized the samples by different processes e.g.  High precision milling, laping and honing.

Vocational Trainee, Panki Thermal Power Station, UP State Electricity Board, India

(May 2000 - Jul 2000)

*        Worked with various departments in power plant unit; Turbine and Boiler Maintenance department, Water Treatment Plant, ESP plant, cooling tower units.

*        Analysed different aspects involved in appropriate functioning of power plant unit e.g. impurity removal, saturated steam conditions, efficiency calculations, ESP usage and characterized theoretical model for the same.

Student researcher, Dept. of Safety and Radiation Protection, FZ- Juelich GmbH, Germany

(Aug 2005-Jun 2006)

*        Worked on design and construction of calibration phantoms representative of small children population.

*        Characterized the anthropometric properties of small children population and developed mathematical model for design and construction of children phantoms.

*        Developed the phantoms with modular approach in design for final constructions.

*        Performed calibration of stationary whole body counter at Research Centre Juelich.

*        Compared the constructed phantom types with other types of phantoms and analysed activity calculation with each class of phantom.

Research Assistant, Nuclear Engineering & Sciences Program, University of Idaho, Idaho Falls, USA Presently (from Fall Semester, 2007) as Ph.D. student in Nuclear Engineering & Sciences at University of Idaho, Idaho falls campus, USA. My current research topic is to develop and demonstrate ultrasonic velocimetry and thermometry, with focus toward improved SFR O&M. That is, velocimetry and thermometry as diagnostic tools during normal and off normal operations.

Accomplishments:

*        Abstract for paper “Development of Calibration Phantoms representative of Infants and Small children” has been accepted for poster presentation at Montpellier Workshop, France (Workshop for Dosimetry of Internal Radionuclides).

*        Participated in Training program “Reactor Physics and Techniques” at Czech Republic. Performed experiments on VRABEC training reactor.

*        Participated in International Symposium and NPE 2007 at IIT Kanpur, Nuclear Engineering & Sciences Div. India.

Awards and Scholarships:

*        Merit scholarship for the year 2000 and 2001 from the department of Mechanical engineering, BBD National Institute of Technology & Management, India.

*        “Top 5 engineering scholar” award for the year 2002 from the department of Mechanical engineering, BBD National Institute of Technology & Management, India.

*        Research Fellowship for the year 2005 and 2006 from the department of  Safety & Radiation Protection, Forschungszentrum Juelich, Germany.
