Professional Experience
United States Army, Locations Worldwide 1998 – Present
Satellite Communications Technician and Senior Satellite Communications Technician: Jun. 1998 - Feb. 2005
Certified to work and completed exams on six different network controlling positions. Supervised, trained, and certified five to eleven team members, during separate time periods, in providing support for over 150 critical satellite communications systems. Training included responsibility for maintaining system security, reliability, and availability. Identified, troubleshot, and resolved technical issues in timely and accurate manner to minimize system downtime, while coordinating closely with senior management and external users regarding system status and ongoing operational issues. Successfully conducted trend analysis on satellite transponders and various types of ground equipment.
Coordinated authorized satellite link outages with federal agencies, and communications security encryption changeovers on daily basis. Monitor three satellite communication networks continually, six different networks monitored in total and key systems to remotely control transmit power of earth stations, characterize modems, and calibrate transmit paths of Earth stations and TX power of individual links. Planned transponder configurations, beam antenna configurations, antenna connectivity, link power requirements, and link channel percent of power usage. Conducted gain tests, adjustments, alignments and frequency sweeps.
Satellite Communications Control Supervisor: Mar. 2005 - Jun. 2007
Managed, directed, and trained no fewer than twelve team members. Responsible for day to day operations as the senior supervisor on site for up to twelve hours at a time. Directly interfaced with communications agencies such as Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) while remaining the satellite network controller subject matter expert. Personally responsible for certification and testing of all personnel on site before they could work as the satellite network controller. Administered both the practical (hands-on) and written exams for this position, while continually updating diagrams and improving how-to guides. Served as the communications security responsible officer, maintaining one hundred percent accountability on over seventy lines of cryptographic material and nineteen cryptographic control items. Personally signed and accountable for six million dollars worth of equipment in capacity as the satellite network position expert for over three years, with zero losses. Led team to achieve exemplary rating during an independent review and evaluation. Created and established block diagrams and standard operating procedures for the Global Terrestrial Critical Control Circuit.
Satellite Communications Operations Officer: Jul. 2007 – Present
Implement, manage, and control multi-faceted network consisting of satellite terminals, fiber optic connections, and multiple types of Cisco switches and routers. Well versed in router management and complex networking consisting of multiple virtual LANs/WANs and different types of connections. Network consists of over fifty switches, eight satellite terminals, and four line of sight connections. Supervised five different groups of personnel and assisted in any technical difficulties when necessary. Recognized as the satellite network communications subject matter expert. Developed cross-training program for multiple personnel, and presented four classes to over thirty personnel. Responsible for implementation and training in the use of Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP).
Key Achievements:
· Received two separate commendations for expertise and management during an independent evaluation and for actions taken during a critical loss of power as the operations manager.
· Repeatedly selected from over 40 qualified personnel as the subject matter expert for the satellite network controller position throughout three continuous years
· Earned an Associate’s of Arts Degree while often working over 60 hours per week.
· Maintained a 97.7% average during a two month management and leadership course.
· Maintained 100% accountability on 6 million dollars worth of equipment and hundreds of different articles of cryptographic material with no losses.
· Received 16 awards during ten years of decorated military service for a variety of achievements.
· Through six years of leadership ratings, never received less than an excellent rating for competence.
· Led a group of largely inexperienced personnel to achieve an exemplary rating and outperform more experienced peer groups (Independent Evaluation).
· Created and implemented new standard operating procedures, troubleshooting guides, and block diagrams for circuits and multiple new operations systems.
· Expertly operated Satellite Configuration Control Element to command DSCS III spacecraft's communications subsystem and monitor telemetry.
· Fully implemented a full network consisting of seven different satellite terminals and five Line-of-sight links to be monitored through SNMP and other trend analysis programs in high stress situations.
