    EMPLOYMENT HISTORY

    Altran Italia Spa:

    July 2009 – Now

    AOCS (Attitude and Orbit Control Subsystem) Functional Engineer, customer Thales Alenia Space - Cannes, AIT/AIV (Assembly Integration and Testing/Verification) department. The activity is carried out in the frame of the programme “Globalstar 2”, a constellation of 48 Low-Earth-Orbit (LEO) satellites for mobile satellite voice and data services. I’m responsible for the preparation of all the activities relevant to AOCS like Integration and Performance Tests of sensors (Sun Sensors, Magnetometer, GPS, Earth Sensor) and actuators (Reaction Wheels, Magneto Torque Bars and Thrusters) as well as for the preparation of system level tests.

    January 2007 – June 2009

    AOCS (Attitude and Orbit Control Subsystem) Functional Engineer, customer Thales Alenia Space - Torino, AIT/AIV (Assembly Integration and Testing/Verification) department. The activity has been carried out in the frame of the programme Herschel-Planck, two scientific satellites of the European Space Agency (ESA).

    I was in charge of the verification and validation of On-Board Software for AOCS subsystems and related components (sensors/actuators) and involved in the following phases of the process:

    -          Definition, implementation and execution of procedures and Automated Test Sequences for electrical and functional verifications;

    -          Data analysis and Test Evaluation Reports preparation;

    -          Preparation and attendance to Test Readiness Review (TRR), Post Test Review (PTR) and Test Review Board (TRB) for discussion of subsystem requirements’ fulfilment;

    -          Raising of Non-Conformance Reports (NCR) in case of HW/SW anomalies, investigations, troubleshooting and attendance to  related Non-Conformance Review Board (NRB).

    During Herschel/Planck AOCS test campaign I handled several typologies of test cases executed on Satellites Flight and Avionic Models: Nominal Closed Loop (Spacecraft Mode Transitions), Failure Detection Isolation and Recovery (FDIR), Polarity Tests, Units Health Checks and End to End tests acquiring the capability to face with very complex simulations involving real hardware in the loop.

    From April 2008, I have supported Thales Alenia Space-France team as ACMS Expert for Planck satellite acting also as “interface” among TAS-I/TAS-F AIT and Engineering departments.

     I have participated to the following activities:

    -          Planck Thermal Vacuum/Thermal Balance

    -          IST-1 (Integrated System Test, part I)

    -          IST-2 (Integrated System Test, part II)

    -          AOCS SFT-1, SFT-2, SFT-3 (Short Functional Test)

    -          Launch campaign in Kourou-French Guyana

    For each of them I contributed to tests preparation and execution, test evaluation reports preparation, attendance to TRR, PTR, TRB, NRB and technical meetings.

    I have provided AIT support for Planck SVT/SOVT preparation too.

    Several activities have been performed abroad, mainly in Thales Alenia Space-France (Cannes), ASED (Astrium Space Earth Division,  FriedrichshafenGermany), CSL (Centre Spatiale de Liège - Belgium) and CSG (Centre Spatial Guyanais - French Guyana) implying a close and active collaboration with foreign companies and international organizations (European Space Agency)

    June 06 – December 2006

    Herschel/Planck System Database Manager, customer Thales Alenia Space-Torino, department AIT/AIV (Assembly Integration and Testing/Verification). Also this task has been carried out in the frame of the programme Herschel-Planck.

    The task foresaw the XML definition of Telemetry and Telecommands for the Herschel/Planck mission. The use of a dedicated tool, HPSDB, allowed the automatic generation of  a database in a format loadable on ground systems starting from XML files. Besides these activities, my task was also to verify the correctness and consistency of the target Database adapting or developing from scratch dedicated tools and to maintain HPSDB (Oracle-based application).

    MARS (Microgravity Advanced Research and Support) Center – Telespazio/ThalesAleniaSpace-Finmeccanica Group,

    July 2005 – June 2006

    Software engineer. During my experience in the Space Operations and Technologies Dept of MARS Center (Facility Responsible Center of Columbus Fluid Science Laboratory) I was involved in the following activities:

    -          In the frame of Columbus programme:  design and development of SMCD (Science Monitoring Control and Distribution Tool). This application is able to receive Telemetry from Columbus Payloads like FSL (Fluid Science Laboratory), decoding and displaying it on synoptic displays that can be built in a quick and simple way also at run-time. The tool has also “Telemetry Distribution” capabilities: it can be configured as server distributing telemetry to other SMCD applications configured as clients on a LAN/WAN. Through a dedicated SW library (DaSS) compliant to ESA security requirements, it has been interfaced to CD-MCS (Columbus Distributed Monitoring and Control) System used to control (capability to send TCs) and monitoring Columbus Payloads. SMCD has been integrated in several centres involved in Columbus programme, like Canadian Space Agency and ERASMUS user support centre.

    -          Support to design and implementation (routing, networking, Telemetry Distribution and Archiving systems) of MARS Center Ground Segment for the remote control of the Fluid Science Laboratory:

    -          Ground Controller for SVT-0, SAT and other Tests with Col-CC (Columbus Control Center) and Facility Control Centers. This activity has been coupled with several training sessions on Space Operations and Familiarization courses on International Space Station.

    -          Support to ISS experiment ALTCRISS (Alteino Long Term monitoring of Cosmic Rays on International Space Station);

    University of Naples  Federico II, Faculty of Law

    September 2004 – July 2005

    - Member of the academy board for the course "Introduction to Informatics"
    -    Cycle of seminars on Office Automation.

    EDUCATION
    November 1999 – July 2005 - M.Sc. degree (5 year course) in Computer Science, University of Naples Federico II. Final score: 110/110 cum laude.

    Thesis in Quantitative Finance developed in collaboration with the Financial Models group of IMI Bank, Milan. In this work I analyzed several relevant issues concerning Stochastic Option Pricing Models (and other classes of Derivatives) alternative to the most famous model introduced by Black-Merton-Scholes. The results have been presented during the Econophysics Colloquium of Australian National University of Canberra (Australia) in November 2005.
