    Objectives:

    The Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS) recommendation to initiate an activity to provide information for sensor inter-comparison, data of sensors, protocols and guide-lines for Calibration and Validation (Cal/Val) has been accepted by ESA in 2005 and a project was launched to develop a Web Portal supporting Calibration and Validation of Earth Observation Data (EO Cal/Val Portal).

    The Version 1 of the Portal was completed in late 2006. The Version 1 is concentrating on Infrared and Visible Optical Sensors (IVOS). It provides all means to make EO and in-situ data available over internationally agreed diagnostic sites. The objective of this evolution project is to widen the scope of the portal, integrate it in the international context and foster its usage.

    A key factor for success will be the appointment of a dedicated Cal/Val Portal Manager to the project.

    Position description

     

    The successful candidate will be responsible:

    ·     To fill the portal with technical and scientific content (Sensors description, in-situ data, satellite data, documentation, information),

    ·         To keep contact with the Calibration and Validation teams in order to support their projects with the portal and to promote the portal

    ·         To gather requirements for optimization

    ·         To develop calibration tools from the portal

    ·         To gather and organize the calibration and inter-calibration results and to optimize the interface with GECA and OCADA Multi-Mission projects

    ·         To provide supporting analysis and other requested documentation

    ·        To investigate possible synergy and operational interfaces with existing ESA portals

    ·         To define and finalize the portal operational follow-up, generating all necessary procedures, interface documents and reports

    ·    Starting from input like Cal/Val portal ICD, CEOS reports, Cal/Val information, the successful candidate will be in charge to produce deliverables such as Periodic Cal/Val portal update, presentations for project reviews, advisory meetings, CEOS meeting…

     

    This task will require missions to Brockmann Consult (G), various missions to CEOS meetings or to Cal/Val meetings.


    Profile of the Consultant:

     

    The applicant shall have a University degree or equivalent qualification in Remote Sensing / Earth Observation (EO) and a good understanding in EO Calibration and Validation activities.

    Software coding skills and web environment knowledge are required.

    Knowledge in geophysical sciences is a definite asset.

    Communication skills are mandatory and previous experience working in a multinational environment is desirable.

    A good knowledge of the English language is required.
