Overview:
· Inspection of optical and mechanical parts and units according to system specifications;
· Conception and development of measurements methods and systems in the field of optical metrology.
· Inspection and measurement of optical and mechanical parts or units in accordance with specification and procedures agreed with the laboratory customers.
· Research and development of measurement methods and instrumentation in the field of optical metrology. These activities shall be conducted in close cooperation with AIV managers of the ESTEC Test Centre, project staff and ESTEC laboratories engineers or scientists.
· Definition and implementation of a maintenance plan for the laboratory instrumentation.
· Maintenance and improvement of the Quality Management System.
· Maintenance and continuation of the laboratory accreditation to ISO 17025.
· Handling of high-precision measurement equipment such as theodolites, autocollimators, 3D measuring machines etc.
Applicants for this post should have a university degree or equivalent qualification in aerospace engineering with specialisation preferably in Geodesy with 2-3 years experience in metrology applications for satellite testing.
In addition, candidates shall have good comprehension of related technologies and engineering domains like electromechanical systems, opto-mechanical engineering, thermal engineering and vacuum systems.
The candidate shall have former experience in the operation of the following test equipment: coordinate measuring machines, auto-collimation theodolites, laser tracker, autocollimator, roughness tester, roundness tester, photogrammetry systems, linear laser interferometer, extensometers, data acquisition systems, and other sensors and metrology equipment.
Applicants should prove their capability to liaise with ESA internal and industrial external test customers and have demonstrated ability to work in a team. A good knowledge of English language is required. Proficiency in Dutch is desired for liaison with local suppliers.
The candidate has the following duties:
· support the daily activities of the Metrology Laboratory;
· provide metrology support to ESTEC projects and laboratories;
· provide engineering support and specifically metrology support for investment and maintenance activities of the ESTEC Test Centre;
· assuring proper maintenance of laboratory instrumentation and of the ISO 17025 quality system;
· support the ESA internal research and development activities;
· assuring a proper presentation of the Metrology Laboratory activities and plans to the Head of the Engineering Services Section of the Test Centre Division.
Assets: Previous experience with operation and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation and with the ISO 17025 quality system is an asset. Experience in any of the following software is an asset: PC-DMIS CAD++, Metrolog XG, Spatial Analyzer, MCOSMOS-2, National Instruments LabVIEW, Matlab, ImetricS, Leica Axyz, Wyler Levelsoft, Agilent 5529A dynamic calibrator, IAC Round, Mitutoyo Surfpak-SV, GUM Workbench Pro, CATIA V5.
