    Job Description

    Role:

    The role will not require shift working nor dethatched duty, however short international visits will be required for which expenses will be paid via and in accordance with the Astrium expense procedure.

    In the context of the development of the Alphasat Test Software, the AIT software team is looking for a software lead.

    The role will involve:

    • Interface all the project stakeholders for the software team (project; quality; IP team; system validation; AIT operations; SQA Team; customer; external software suppliers etc.)
    • Represent team in meetings
    • Report to project and to AIT management
    • Owner of the software development plan and schedule; responsible for the reporting on costs
    • Report back to technical experts: software architects and software developers.
    • Make sure the system developed is compliant with ISO 12207 standards and with the department’s software development process.

     Desirable technical skills include expertise in the following areas:

    • Payload Test software, Operator orientated software interfaces.
    • Concept and development of service orientated applications.
    • Automation of RF Tests.
    • Development, Validation and Maintenance of software projects.
    • DSP configuration.

    The role will require the candidate to act as the Design Authority for the top level layer of the software used on payload test systems (PTS) and to support this software during the AIT test campaign.

    The role will require the candidate to liaise with external software suppliers, track actions and ensure the development phase is successful, it will then require to monitor the integration and validation phase. The role includes the formal delivery of the overall test system (with support from the EGSE hardware team) to AIT Operations and to the System Validation team. Finally, the role includes the support during the various phases of the programme: baseline; SFT; TVAC and launch.

    The applicant will be able to solve business needs in a strategic manner, allowing the software system to grow and perform in the long term and to create and spot opportunities for re-use. She/he will be a team player ready to work in an environment with rapidly changing requirements. She/he will be able to integrate easily and quickly into AIT teams. She/he will have high self motivation and good problem solving skills (technical, logistical and organizational).

    Ideally the candidate would be an experienced developer willing to take a software team leader position.

    The position may require support of the Spacecraft test campaign overseas (Toulouse, France)

    Profile:
    • Knowledge of remote communication technologies.
    • Service oriented architecture
    • MS Visual Studio 2008
    • SQL server databases, relational database architecture
    • Enterprise Portal
    • Test software development
    • Software development process and methodology (CMM; ISO 12207; SSADM; UML; etc.)

    In addition, RF Test and Payload architecture experience would be desirable:

    • Previous experience of RF testing as operator (spectrum analysis, network analysis)
    • Familiar with telecom payload architecture and space industry environment

    Moreover, the candidate should have experience in the field of software development.

    Previous experience in the development of applications running on Windows OS, ideally in the context of the .NET framework

    Solid software architecture experience (relational databases and distributed applications) on projects with multiple stakeholders

    Test Software development and support experience would be desirable

    Software development process knowledge and previous experience of process support (audits, process improvement initiatives, etc.)
