Deep in Mars' past, an asteroid struck the planet with such titanic force that it could've killed off the planet's entire magnetic field, according to a new study.
Science editor Alan Boyle's blog: After a decade of tinkering, NASA has successfully conducted the first deep-space test of a protocol designed to accommodate an interplanetary Internet.
Flight controllers were revamping plans Wednesday for the remaining spacewalks planned during space shuttle Endeavour's visit to the international space station, after a crucial tool bag floated out to space during a repair trip.
Strange weather on the icy dwarf planet Eris could be causing changes that scientists are now seeing at the methane-ice surface of this distant object in our solar system.
Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary engineering team to develop state-of-the-art spacecraft communication antennas or subsystems.
Be part of a design team and assume a supervisory role to evaluate numerically and/or experimentally, stiffness, strength and durability of the structure of space products.
Size components; identify problem areas; propose design modification or improvement; and subsequently approve the mechanical design.
Support manufacturing, and validate and prove the mechanical design by conducting mechanical tests on the product hardware according to the mechanical loading environment.
Generate analysis reports and create mechanical test plans and reports.
Profile:
Candidates must have in-depth knowledge of standard space structural analysis techniques, the F.E. software NASTRAN (static and dynamic solutions) and structural environmental testing. Knowledge of a pre/ post processor such as FEMAP or PATRAN, composites, and fatigue is definitive assets.
Candidates should have five to ten years experience in the field of structural analysis in space industry and are expected to be self-driven and highly motivated.
Proficient in English Language both written and spoken. French would be a benefit.
University degree. or the equivalent in Mechanical Engineering. Masters preferred.
