    Job Description

    Aurora

    Aurora is an established and approved supplier of skilled manpower to ESA and in particular at ESTEC and ESAC. There is a great opportunity to join the Aurora on-site team of 10 supporting ESA at ESAC, near Madrid, for the following work.

     

    Overview and Tasks

    The work is to support the Rosetta mission to comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko and two asteroid flybys.

    A summary of the work packages follows:

    • Work package #1: Support the asteroid flyby and Earth swingby operations
    • Work package #2: Support the Active and Passive Payload Checkout operations
    • Work package #3: Support of any new observational scenarios
    • Work package #4: Support the evaluation of the observational scenarios
    • Work package #5: Support the maintenance and development of planning tools
    • Work package #6: Support the preparation for the comet phase
    • Work package #7: Support of reviews

    Specific qualification requirements

    The candidate should have a university background in a scientific or technical subject as well as experience in payload and / or spacecraft operations. In particular, he/she should have the following qualifications:
    • Familiarity with science operations practices and MOC - SOC - PI team relations is highly desirable. Capability of understanding the overall SOC structure is required.
    • Good communications skills are essential for interacting with the PI teams and RMOC.
    • Good understanding of the Rosetta spacecraft and its scientific payload on a practical level is highly desirable.
    • Knowledge of cometary and asteroid science is desirable.
    • Knowledge of the working principles of the Experiment Planning System (EPS), in particular experience in generating Input Timeline (ITL) files and Experiment Description Files (EDFs) is desirable. Knowledge of the format of the Payload Operational Request (POR) file and Pointing Request Files (PTRs) is a benefit.
    • Experience in using environmental simulators for operational planning is highly desirable. Familiarity with the PTB and MAPPS would be an advantage.
    • Experience with software development and CVS (Configuration and Versioning System) is a benefit.
    • Capability of writing clear and concise documentation is required.
    • Fluent in English.

    All applicants must hold a valid passport from a country of the European Union and be legally able to work in Spain.

    Location

    The work will be performed at the ESAC, the European Space Astronomy Centre, at Villafranca del Castillo, near Madrid, Spain.

     

    Contract

    • You will be registered for both social security and tax in Spain.
    • The standard working hours are 40 per week. There are 12 public holidays and an additional 27 annual days holiday.
    • Training to improve efficiency and provide strength for future career are of course included.
    • Aurora can assist financially with relocation and provide useful information to working and living in Spain.
