Aurora is an established and approved supplier of skilled manpower to ESA and in particular at ESTEC and ESAC. There is a great opportunity to join the Aurora on-site team at ESTEC for the following work.

We offer a fantastic opportunity to support the scientific development within the Science Payload Instrument Section in the European Space Agency (ESA) Science Programme. It is mandatory to have a Physics/Engineering background with several years of hands-on development and laboratory experience (not just theory and data analysis). PhD level is advantageous but not absolutely required. The candidates should be capable of working independently. The tasks will mostly consist of hands-on laboratory work combined with data analysis and interpretation.

We are looking for a candidate who will assist in the development of cyrogenice sensors such as Superconducting Tunnel Junction(STJ) detectors and DROIDS. The work will require:
    • Assisting staff in following fabrication processes, advising the external companies where needed.
    • Evaluating the STJ / DROID processing and suggesting new processing routes.
    • Preparing measurement set-ups.
    • Characterizing the detectors in our laboratories, in terms of systematic IV curve-tracing, spectroscopic quality, yield, etc.
    • Provide feedback to the processing route.
    • Assisting staff in calibration campaigns at synchrotron facilities.
The candidate should preferably be experienced with cryogenic detectors and in particular superconducting detectors and materials.

All applicants must hold a valid passport from a country of the European Union and be legally able to work in The Netherlands

    Contract

    • You will be registered for both social security and tax in The Netherlands.
    • The standard working hours are 40 per week. There are 12 public holidays and an additional 27 annual days holiday.
    • Training to improve efficiency and provide strength for future career are of course included.
