The engineer will support the operational communications systems at 3rd line. These are IP-based and are built of Cisco switches and routers, firewalls and multiplexers, plus the related monitoring and control systems. There are several WAN interfaces, connecting to external suppliers' networks. Also voice loop systems and time reference systems are operated. Will be responsible also for the management of projects relating to the technical evolution of the ICT infrastructure including all documentation.
Responsibilities/Duties
· Design and planning of the communication infrastructure evolution
· Liaising with the internal and external providers of network services for planning and co-ordinating changes to the service
· Analysis and planning of network upgrades or reconfigurations, taking care of compatibility issues between subsystems
· Investigation of escalated anomalies
· Provision of stand-by/on-call support
· Provision of support, as required, to critical operations
Qualifications/Experience
The engineer should have a university degree and current Cisco certification of CCIP (preferable CCIE) or be able to substantiate equivalent experience. Knowledge and hands-on experience with the following is mandatory:
· Cisco network equipment and architectures, Cisco Works
· Network management : HP Openview, JFF,
· Security products: TACACS+, IPSEC
· IP multicast and PGM
· QOS and traffic shaping
· MPLS
· WAN interfacing : using SDH, E1/E3, ISDN, leased lines
· Protocol analysers, Bit error rate testers
· Tools : Snort, tcpdump, iptables, cricket, iperf
Essential Skills
The engineer shall be familiar with the Cisco family of routers/switches products, in particular with the design of complex communications configurations for both LAN and WAN environments.
The documentation of all required designs and procedures is an essential part of the job and shall be produced in English: therefore a perfect command of the English language, both written and spoken, is essential.
Desirable Skills
· Sun Solaris, SuSE Linux, Microsoft Windows operating systems
· Configuration and monitoring of network protocols and applications, e.g.
Qualities
· Must be able to work well under pressure, be flexible and have good communication skills
· The variety of the tasks and the scope of the configurations to be supported require a high degree of autonomy and good analytical skills
