    Job Profile
    The Thermal Engineer will carry out detailed thermal design and analysis activities on various current projects. Projects range from full spacecraft analysis, to product analysis, to detailed component analysis. The Thermal Engineer will report to the project thermal architect or responsible engineer, while working on the project and the Head of Thermal Engineering for technical and departmental matters. In addition, the Thermal Engineer will provide the detailed thermal design, make hardware selection and define and participate in the thermal testing. The production of design and analysis reports is expect, as required by the project.
     
    Tasks
    The Thermal Engineering group is responsible for the analysis, development and test of spacecraft, product and component thermal control systems, in support to the various business units.
    The spacecraft design includes low Earth orbit missions, geostationary spacecraft, interplanetary spacecraft and extraterrestrial planetary landers.
    The products currently supported by the Thermal Engineering group are antennae, mechanisms, cryogenic coolers and spacecraft propulsion.
    The responsibilities typically span the full project life-cycle from early conceptual design support through qualification and up to final delivery to the customer. In some instances, support is required to launch and in-orbit operations.
    The Thermal Engineer will actively participate in direct projects of the Thermal Architects and Responsible Engineers. These direct projects may be commercial or institutional external projects, or internally funded R&D or process improvement projects.
     
    Skills
    Experience and Skills Required
    - Experience, ideally in the space environment, but not essential.
    - Working experience with standard thermal analysis tools would be beneficial, including ESATAN, ESARAD or Thermica.
    - Capability to perform quick hand calculations to support thermal design concepts would be desirable.
    - Organisation and time management skills
    - Openness to innovation and to accepting best practices in a trans-national environment.
     
    Qualifications
    - Degree or good A-levels in physics, mathematics, mechanical/aero engineering, or other relevant numerical subject.
