    Astronaut Support, Eurocom Operations Engineer,

    based at the European Astronaut Centre, Cologne, Germany

    Overview:

     

    Serco, a supplier of staff and resources to International Organisations and Governments have provided engineering and business administration staff to the European Space Agency for over 30 years. Currently we are seeking to employ a highly motivated and enthusiastic Aerospace Engineer to work in an exciting innovative international environment at the European Astronaut Centre.

     

    As an expert in your field, you will be part of the Eurocom Team, based at the European Astronaut Centre (EAC) in Cologne, Germany. The prime function of the Eurocom Operations Engineer is, as Eurocom, in the Columbus Flight Control Team (FCT) from the Columbus Control Centre (COL-CC) in Oberpfaffenhofen and from EAC.

     

    The specific tasks related to the position are:

    • Communicate as a member of the FCT in COL-CC with the crew on-onboard the International Space Station (ISS)
    • Prepare upcoming shifts through thorough familiarisation with the current on-board status
    • Review of related Columbus systems and payload procedures
    • Regularly update and maintain under configuration control the Eurocom shift plan for Eurocom assignment to real time operations and simulations.
    • Participate in the regular Eurocom Tag-ups as requested by the Eurocom Lead and support Eurocom action item tracking and information sharing
    • Maintain up to date the web based Eurocom eRoom for online information sharing within the Eurocom group.
    • Provide information to maintain and continuously update the Eurocom Handbook
    • Support debriefings with astronauts, who are returning from a space mission
    • Contribute to the summary of “Lessons learnt” after each spaceflight (i.e. provide support to the writing the crew mission report)
    • Participate in the Eurocom training for his/her Eurocom certification and proficiency maintenance.
    • When required, perform Eurocom Increment Specific coordination, as Increment Eurocom Lead

     

      

    Qualifications and Requirements:

     

    Applicants require a Masters or PhD in either Science or Physics together with a number of years working in a Space environment, Columbus and/or ISS being preferred.

     

    You will have a personal profile closely following:

     

    ·         Fluent in English, this is essential, together with good knowledge of German; knowledge of another member state language is an asset

    ·         Highly flexible

    ·         Good organization skills, good communication skills

    ·         Ability to cope with pressure

    ·         Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the outside world
