    Payload Engineer, based at the European Space Agency,

    Noordwijk, the Netherlands

    Overview:

     

    Serco, a supplier of staff and resources to the International Organisation and Governments have, in the  Netherlands,  provided engineering and business administration staff  to the European Space Agency for over 30 years

     

    We are currently seeking to employ a highly motivated and enthusiastic Payload Engineer with in depth knowledge of Communication Systems & Onboard Telecom Digital Processors, to work in an exciting innovative international environment at the European Space Agency

     

    As an expert in your field you will provide support encompass working with hardware, software and systems aspects as outlined below:

    ·         Involvement in engineering and set up of end-to-end multimedia applications (such as video streaming, collaborative working, teleconferencing, etc.) which will involve different communications means such as terrestrial and satellite networks.

     

    ·         Supporting field trials and test campaigns in coordination with internal or external participating entities.

     

     

    ·         You will be involved in the assessment of communications systems and techniques in relation to new multimedia applications. This will include preparatory work to set up the tests and, carrying out the test campaign and preparing the evaluation report.

     

    ·         Engineering and set up of end-to-end pilot projects as well as pre-operational phase that will potentially involve combination of satellite, wireless, or fixed-line communications to collect and re-distribute integrated data in real time and non real time mode. 

     

     

    Qualifications and Requirements:

     


    Applicants require a degree in Science or physics, or equivalent, together with:

     

    • Background and experience in Internet technology and IP applications and networking development and integration.

     

    • A broad knowledge of major terrestrial and satellite network components and protocols including TCP/IP, LAN, WAN, ATM, PBX, Wireless, GSM, UMTS as well as communication air interfaces and standards.

     

    ·         Knowledge and operation of satellite communications systems and related applications will be an asset.

     

    ·         Experience of working in lab environment, familiarity with baseband and RF measurement tools

     

    ·         Background in analysis and design of IP applications and networking solutions

     

    ·         Knowledge of video related compression techniques and transport protocols (H323, video over IP’s)

     

    Applicants must hold the correct documentation and permits to work in the Netherlands.
