| Job Description | The Center of Applied Space Technology and Microgravity (ZARM) at the University of Bremen is offering
one Experienced Researcher Position
for a period of 3 month starting in April 2008. The position is for participation in the EU-Marie-Curie TOK-DEV project “First Look - Fast Initial In-Orbit Identification of Scientific Satellites”. The project is carried out with our partners the Institute of Astronomy at Cambridge University (UK) and the W. W. Hansen Experimental Physics Laboratory at Stanford University (USA).
The area of work is closely connected to the research and development activities of the Space Technology Department which are located in the field of spacecraft orbit and attitude control. Research focuses especially on high accuracy attitude control and drag-free control for scientific space missions. Tasks in this field are modelling of the spacecraft environment and dynamics, modelling of spacecraft sensors and actuators, error modelling, parameter identification, state estimation as well as control system and algorithm design.
The project “First Look” focuses on the research on specific techniques and methods for the identification of the dynamics of scientific satellites. These techniques shall provide accurate models as well as parameter identification methods for utilisation in the scientific data analysis of satellite missions. This includes on one hand the detailed simulation of missions of interest like Gaia, LISA, and STEP. On the other hand methods shall be developed which allow for an in-orbit optimisation of the satellite and on-board instruments.
For the advertised position a PhD in aerospace technology, control engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or physics is required. In addition, ten or more years of research experience after gaining a Master or Diploma degree are needed to fulfil the EU-Marie-Curie programme requirements. Basic knowledge in control theory and satellite dynamics as well as programming skills are necessary. The working language is German or English.
Following the rules for the Marie-Curie programme of the European Commission only candidates can be considered which have not been living in Germany for more than 12 month within the last 3 years. As the University of Bremen intends to increase the proportion of female employees in science women are particularly invited to send their application.
