    POST

     

    Education Satellite Project Manager in the Education Office, Directorate of Legal Affairs and External Relations.

     

    This post is classified in the A2/A4 grade band of the Coordinated Organisations’ salary scale.

     

    LOCATION

     

    ESTEC, Noordwijk (The Netherlands).

     

    DUTIES

     

    The postholder will report to the Head of the Education Projects Activities Unit and will be responsible for the management of education satellite projects throughout their lifecycle.

     

    Current projects include: the European Student Earth Orbiter (ESEO), the European Student Moon Orbiter (ESMO) and multiple CubeSats on the maiden flight of the Vega launcher.

     

    Specifically, the duties of the postholder will include:

    - establishing and managing a formal project team comprising experienced space engineering professionals and university academic staff to coordinate, supervise and guide the student work in delivering the various space and ground segment elements;

    - controlling the relevant project management plans, system-level requirements and interfaces through the relevant databases and project documentation;

    - monitoring the technical baseline and associated review data packages to ensure compliance with requirements and applicable standards;

    - managing the satellite AIV (Assembly, Integration and Verification) campaigns in the ESTEC test facilities, including the AIV work by the participating students, and the launch campaign at the launch site;

    - participating in, and/or organising, major project reviews, breadboard testing activities and regular student workshops at ESTEC;

    - identifying project-level technical/cost/schedule/safety risks and proposing remedial measures;

    - supervision of supporting Young Graduate Trainees.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

     

    Applicants for this post should have a university degree or equivalent qualification in engineering or science including a good working knowledge of space project activities.

     

    Candidates must be well organised, show initiative and clear planning abilities, have strong leadership skills, and possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders (ESA, industry, academia and students).

     

    Previous experience in the management and/or system engineering of satellite projects is required.

     

    Knowledge of small satellite systems and the particular mission profile would be an asset.

     

    The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required. Knowledge of another member state language is an asset.
