Lead Payload RF Systems Engineer
Hampshire
Job Profile:
An experienced payload systems engineer with a strong background in payload connectivity elements (such as RF switches, isolators, waveguide/coax) and their application to advanced telecommunications payloads is required to become a key member of the payload engineering team. Working under an Engineering Manager, the role involves overseeing connectivity activities across all active projects including specification, problem resolution, validation and in orbit anomaly follow-up. It also encompasses forward looking aspects such as R&D, new product introduction and continuous improvement. Some overseas travel will also be required.
Specific Tasks to be Undertaken:
Specific tasks will include support to the following:
Design discussions
Approving standard specifications
Approving project specific specifications in conjunction with the project payload engineering manager and validation engineer.
Act as technical focal point with connectivity element suppliers, with a view to creating development plans, resolving technical problems and ensuring design to cost and schedule.
Ensuring closure on all technical problems and that lessons learned are implemented across all ongoing and future projects.
Preparing/presenting technical presentations on connectivity aspects in front of end customers as required.
Attending and presenting at project design reviews, as necessary. Establish the need by agreement with the project payload engineering manager.
Devising and implementing metrics associated with improvements.
Attending supplier evaluation reviews and make the recommendations of preferred candidate(s) in terms of design, performance, risk, product policy and design to cost requirements.
Agreeing the content of Generic Statements of Work and Project Specific Modifications including applicability matrices.
Ensuring validation of connectivity elements at satellite level once assembled.
Maintaining an database of all relevant product information
Experience required:
Mandatory:
A demonstrated high level of competence in RF systems or hardware gained in a position of professional responsibility.
Hardware experience in connectivity elements and technologies as applicable to RF communications systems.
At least seven years relevant post-graduate engineering experience.
Desirable:
Experience in several of the following:
Spaceborne communications system design and analysis
Payload system design and analysis
Payload integration, validation and test
Digital and analogue communications
RF component design, build and test for an aerospace application
Qualifications:
Mandatory:
BSc in Engineering/ Electronics/Science
Desirable :
Higher degree in Electronics, Communications or Aerospace Engineering
Personal Qualities
Team player, well organised, communicative and determined, with the ability to work on their own initiative.
A willingness to travel overseas
