    Job Description

    HE Space Operations is looking for an Optical Engineer to support the engineering activities of the Optics Section (TEC-MMO) of ESA/ESTEC. This Section is responsible for optical system design, engineering and verification; optical component technology, including micro-optics, fibre and passive integrated optics; optical communications; laser metrology and ranging; optical aperture synthesis; interferometry and spectro-radiometric imaging instruments in the visible and infrared.

    Main tasks/duties:

     Translation of optical payload performance requirements into optical systems specifications;
     Conceptual design of optical systems, as telescopes, spectrometers;
     Optical design analysis and verification (incl. optical tolerances analyses);
     Assessment of opto-mechanical layouts;
     Definition of plans for experimental validation and calibration of optical systems;
     Evaluation and analysis of test results;
     Following and monitoring of technology development of high precision optical components.

    Skills
    We are looking for candidates with:
     University degree or equivalent qualification in Optical Engineering or Physics or equivalent qualification by experience.
     Minimum of 4 years of project and/or industrial experience in the design, engineering and testing of various types of optical instrumentation.
     Good working knowledge of ZEMAX and/or CODE V (and preferably also ASAP)
     Hands-on experience in optical manufacturing techniques, alignment and tolerancing
     Good technical judgment and solid communications skills (verbal and in writing) are necessary.
     Proactive attitude to solving problems and an interest for innovative technologies.
