We are looking for an engineer with significant technical writing experience to support the Erasmus User Centre in the Directorate of Human Spaceflight, Microgravity & Exploration (D-HME) in ESA-ESTEC, Noordwijk, Netherlands. The Directorate develops and operates spacecraft, platforms and facilities for research in low orbit and the exploration of the solar system.
For the specific needs of scientists and other users, the Erasmus User Centre provides detailed knowledge of the available spacecraft, platforms and facilities and their related activities.
Support is required to define and develop the core knowledge products and report on the progress of missions and campaigns. Knowledge is created and retained as the content of databases, such as the Erasmus Experiment Archive and the European Users’ Guide to Low Gravity Platforms.
Main tasks/duties:
• Updating and compiling contents related to the HME-UC “European Users Guide to Low Gravity Platforms”
• Technical and contents support to the production team for mission highlight programmes and multimedia products relative to HME projects, missions and campaigns
• Lead function in the definition and compilation of scripts for mission highlight programmes and multimedia products relative to HME projects, missions and campaigns
• Support to the compilation of the HME-UC series of documents “Summary Review of the European Space Agency’s Low Gravity Experiments” in collaboration with the Mission Science Office
• Support to the maintenance of the Erasmus Experiment Archive
• Support to the definition of the material content for the Erasmus Centre website and the updating and maintenance of the individual pages
• Definition of requirements for the production of animations of platforms, facilities and individual experiments and experiment/payload operations
• Updating ISS configuration and operational status for displays
• Support to the set-up and maintenance of the Erasmus Centre highbay mock-ups and displays
Skills
We are looking for candidates with the following skills and abilities:
• Significant technical writing experience
• An excellent command of English is required. Knowledge of other languages (e.g. German, French, Italian, Dutch) will be considered an asset
• University degree or equivalent in engineering or a scientific/technical discipline
• Experience in scientific/technical information analysis
• Experience in the field of space technologies, particularly human spaceflight and microgravity, is an asset.
• Some experience in the communications/media sector is an asset
• High level of fluency in written and spoken English
