    International PFS Post-Doctoral Fellowship

    A post doctoral position is available at the Istituto di Fisica dello Spazio Interplanetario of Roma (IFSI), member of the Italian National Institute of Astrophysics (INAF). The fellowship is funded by INAF in the context of the INAF-ASI Mars Express agreement (ASI/MARS EXPRESS FASE E 2 I/060/08/0), in support of the scientific activities of the PFS experiment. PFS is an instrument for the study of Mars’s atmosphere and surface, included in the payload of Mars Express mission.

    Applicants should have interests and experience in the following broad areas: a. planning of planetary observations, b. programming in IDL and C++ languages.
    The fellow is expected to actively contribute, within the PFS team in IFSI, to the Mars Express planning activity. Moreover, the fellow is expected to take responsibility of the routine production of level 1 data from Mars Express data packets provided by ESA. He/she will naturally have the opportunity to interact with collaborators in the other nodes of the project.     The fellowship is expected to have the duration of one year, with a renewal for another year subject to a positive evaluation of the research activity carried out during the first year.
    The gross yearly salary is expected to be 32.025,00 euro (included tax due by the fellow). The amount will be paid in monthly deferred instalments, after deducting the amount due to tax regulations in accordance with Italian law. No additional stipend, salary, or other remuneration may be accepted from any other appointment (such as teaching), fellowship, or similar grant during the period of the fellowship.

    The candidates should have a PhD in one of the following disciplines: Physics, Astronomy, Engineering, Computer Sciences. All requirements for the PhD must be completed before September, 2010. They should send a Curriculum Vitae, list of publications, statement of work interests and copy of an identity document in electronic form to the reference address.
