    EU-Projekt “First Look: Fast Initial in-orbit determination of scientific satellites”

    • - Development of a software solution of a high-fidelity attitude simulator to model the spacecraft dynamics of the ESA-astrometry mission Gaia.
    • - Design, definition, and deployment of numerous elements to program a realistic simulator software using flight control system algorithms (AOCS), software models of hardware components (e.g. star tracker, thrusters).
    • - Implementation of additional elements based on the space environment and spacecraft-related disturbance sources.
    • - Development of an attitude- & orbit simulator based on Matlab/Simulink for satellites in LEO with drag-free-control. This software includes the simulation of full satellite and test mass dynamics in six degrees of freedom by numerical integration of the equations of motion considering the Earth’s gravity potential up to order 360, disturbance forces including gravity and gravity gradient effects by sun, moon and planets, atmospheric drag, radiation of the sun, Earth’s albedo and IR radiation.
    • - Adaption of the simulator for the scientific NASA mission, STEP. This work included modelling the dynamics and response of the accelerometers for this mission.
    • - Modifications and Extensions of the ZARM/DLR simulator HPS to high-accurate ephemeris data
    • - Maintenance including validation, version control and documentation of the simulators source code
    • - Between June 2008 and May 2009 working with the project partner at University of Cambridge, UK.
