    Oct 09 to Present               Ericsson – Project Manager

    Brought on board to take control of an existing 3 ROI project, with NSN providing the new infrastructure. This project had been running for approximately a year is delivering a new I-HSPA technology. This is a forerunner to LTE and 4G development for the network. The I-HSPA deployment is supporting a government National Broadband Scheme, which has tight timescales for delivery. With the new and untried technology and the rigid timescales for delivery, this project has many challenges.

    • With multiple parties involved with a new technology deployment, it was important to improve communication and bring and much closer working relationship.
    • The new I-HSPA technology was deployed to support mobile broadband and is ne of the first steps towards LTE and 4G working. With no other operators using this technology, tighter controls on the design, testing and deployment of this technology had to be brought in to see a decrease in network issues. The risks had to be balanced against the need for contractual rollout requirements.
    • Project control had to pay greater attention to governance and risk assessment, while balancing technology against targets. Closer working groups, new methods of working, correct controls all contributed to a more stable design, test and build programme.
    • Alongside the major project, I also ran other projects to deploy new SMTP relay servers, increase GGSN capacity, rehost RNCs and deploy a legal intercept solution.

     

    Feb 09 to Sep 09                Vodafone – Project Manager

    Employed as a project manager within Group Technology Solutions and also working as the project manager for VF UK., delivering 2 cross border projects. Delivering projects across the UK, Germany, Italy, Nederland’s, Spain, Greece Ireland and Portugal operating companies. These projects used technologies to deliver a centralised billing solution to large corporate customers, regardless of their employee locations.

    • Brought in to pick up two business targeted projects that had slipped on delivery targets. The projects were using mobile core network elements to deliver data billing from a centralised GGSN, over a diameter billing platform.
    • Identified technical, procedural and operation project issues and implemented actions to rectify these, so as to bring the project back on track.
    • These projects required core network connectivity from several VF European Operating Companies, which had to be managed on a technical, commercial and operational level.
    • Responsible for running multinational teams in UK, Italy and Germany to deliver technical documentation, implementation, operational procedures and support.

    Sep 08 to Feb 09                 T-Mobile UK – Project Manager

    Project manager for several core network projects within the T-Mobile UK network, including STP Replacement, HLR Replacement and DWDM Expansion Projects. This covered all aspects of project delivery from, start up, design, delivery, budget control, risk management, supplier management and quality control.

    • Picked up the STP replacement project during the delivery phase and carried on through to completion. This required the project to be re-scoped and planned due to slippage inn the delivery timescales and scope.
    • Responsible for the HLR replacement project from start up, coving all project management responsibilities. This project covered the HLR hardware replacement, the repair of any data errors on existing platforms and the migration of the Subscriber data from the old HLRs to the new HLRs
    • Assigned to the DWDM project to provide mentoring and control for a newly appointed PM. This project was in the delivery phase and had been running for some time and required the project to brought back on track.
    • Primary budget responsibility for the STP and HLR projects totalling £10 million.

     

    May 08 to Sep 08                NHS Gloucester – Project Manager

    Managing several projects for the clinical IT projects team, which supplied services to the PCT, Acute and Together Trusts. The PCT had already signed a contract for their new HQ and I had been assigned as the IT project manager to proved the IT infrastructure on a very short timescale.

    • Responsible for all IT aspects of the projects from 3rd party suppliers, finance, planning and delivery of the PCT move to their new HQ.
    • As the PCT building was nearing completion, there was a very tight timescale to delivery the IT infrastructure, desktops, VoIP telephone system and system interconnects.
    • Responsible for planning the decommissioning of the old PCT HQ IT infrastructure
    • Carried out the deployment of NAS boxes for the together trust and the implementation a data backup procedures
    • Responsible for the integration of one department on to the NHS network during their move into new premises
    • Responsible for the deployment of new SAN, Blade servers, desktops and Mitel VoIP telephony systems.

     

    Oct 07 to Mar 08                Virgin Mobile – Project Manager

    Brought on board to achieve the aggressive targets necessary for two failing business critical projects. These projects had to be delivered to a tight timescale and achieve all business targets within that time. New business requirements (BSS) had to be collected to deliver the new scope of the project in a very short space of time.

    • Responsible for all aspects of the projects, where much of the testing, planning and operational readiness had not been done, while the deployment phase was in operation.
    • Delivered in 4 months, two long standing projects that were more than 12 months behind schedule and with scopes that no longer met the business requirements.
    • Provision of test plans, acceptance criteria and testing resource to prove suitability of products.
    • Re-scope of project and incorporation of change requests with all necessary planning and resource.
    • All redesign, planning, resourcing, budgeting and testing had to be within the same timelines to meet the business requirements.
    • The projects covered many areas including CRM, singleview, java, FTS and web technologies.

     

    Jun 07 to Sep 07                 Hewlett Packard – Project Manager/Migration Lead

    Responsible for the migration of network services (OSS) within the Vodafone UK network, from discovery and specification through to deployment, implementation, service cut-over and early life support.

    • Preparation of change notifications, detailed migration cut-over plans, regression plans and technical specifications.
    • Management of customer and stakeholders for each service to provide consultation, progression and technical specification, which covered many applications, servers SANs WANs and LANs
    • Engaging with the customer stakeholders and any third parties in the production of the discovery and specification documentation required for migration.
    • Preparation of detailed migration cut-over & regression plans in collaboration with stakeholders and managing migration cut-over & early life support.

    • Responsible for the maintenance and operation of the DMS 100. Carried out a switch wide audit to establish the status of the switch and rectified many outstanding long term faults. Then introduced daily reporting schedules to produce traffic loading and fault detection procedures.
    • Managed the introduction and installation of new peripheral hardware assemblies and the re-engineered of the billing data collection routines and storage media devices to stop data loses

This required the project management of the installs and upgrades and the implementation of procedures and processes to be used by the Codenet personnel during these phases.

     

    • Project managed hardware upgrades and extensions to the carrier class switch network along with the planning and execution of the software upgrade to the existing DMS 100 switch. Managed and carried out the installation, integration and testing of the SS7 links to the Belgacom STPs and the transfer of SS7 traffic from the Associated links to the Quasi Associated links. Managed the installation, integration and testing of a second DMS 100. Carried out the SS7 and ISUP datafill, installation and testing on interconnects from the new DMS 100 to Luxembourg PTT, Belgium carriers and local interconnects.

    • Managed the introduction of a new switch maintenance team within the voice operations department and the production of their maintenance procedures and operational instructions.
    • Project managed the implementation and configuration of new CompTel billing mediation platform
    • Set up and co-ordinated the production of logs and reports for troubleshooting and performance monitoring of all network entities to provide information for the scheduled and unscheduled maintenance for the DMS switches and the MMCS Meridians.

    1997 to 1998                        NTL - Network Operations Controller

     

    • Responsible for the control, operation and maintenance of five DMS 100 switches.
    • Carrying out the collation and production of DMS 100 statistical information and performance indicators.
    • Responsible for the management of billing data and the control of switch operating files and data.
    • Responsible for the real time monitoring and fault diagnosis for SDH and PDH networks.
    • Controlling the allocation of manpower resources in the event of network and switching failures.
    • Co-ordinating with different departments and acting as a central control point in dealing with customer problems.

     

    1994 to 1997                        RAF Oakhanger - Systems Manager and Satellite Payload Controller

     

    • Controlled the allocation and real time monitoring of all RF transmissions including CDMAs on up to four satellites. Initiated the complete restructuring of the frequency allocations to reduce power requirements and improve communications for CDMA broadcast.
    • Responsible for the real time communications management of a worldwide strategic and tactical satellite network.
    • Managed satellite payload and ground station network of 5 fixed sites and up to 60 mobile sites including power requirement calculations and allocations for all CDMA broadcasts.
    • Oversaw the installation and technical transfer of new tactical satellite telephone System.
    • Installation Manager for GMF (Ground Mobile Forces) satellite monitoring and control system, which included negotiating with NATO allies on logistics and operations matters. Responsible for the equipment enhancements including the research and installation of a new PC based system.
    • Constructed Terms of Reference for key personnel and developed Standard Operating Procedures for major systems in preparation for ISO 9001 external accreditation.

     

    1993 to 1994                        RAF – H. F. Receiver Site Manager

     

    • Evaluated and implemented the use of Health and Safety procedures within the section. Pinpointed danger areas and performed risk and COSHH assessments.
    • Production, Q&A, and testing of equipment service designed modifications, which involved the design of the modification, the production of technical documentation and the trialling and quality testing of the package.
    • Administered the good health, safety and welfare of 12 members of staff.
    • Controlled all of the technical equipment on site and was responsible for controlling the operation, servicing, modification and repair.
    • Catalogued and rationalised the stock holdings on site.

     

    1992 to 1993                        RAF - Engineering Co‑ordination Section Manager

     

    • Co-ordinated the allocation of technical courses with outside agencies for all station personnel.  Updated personal training records and allocated personnel to meet section training and manning requirements.
    • Implemented the maintenance policy for all equipments installed on the station.
    • Controlled all of the station equipment servicing schedules and produced and ratified the documentation.

     

    1989 to 1992                        RAF - NATO Telephone System Controller

     

    • Operated and maintained one on the NATO IVSN telephone system switches, which included all troubleshooting and preventative maintenance.
    • Provided operational and maintenance support for several cryptography equipments, for both IVSN and other communications systems.
    • Produced a proposal outlining a new manning structure for the division, which included manpower resourcing, shift structures and training requirements..
    • When required, provided support for the Technical Control Facility in troubleshooting and operations.

     

    1979 to 1989                        RAF – Various Positions

     

    • Employed on course design to research a variety of satellite systems and equipments, which took place on RAF stations and at manufacturer sites.. Delivery of developed courses to prove timings and provide training of instructors.
    • Managed baseband section of the 3rd line satellite equipment servicing and testing facility. Developing 3rd line testing rigs and the repair of tri-service satellite equipment.
