NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope helped an international team of astronomers find that an unusual object in the asteroid belt is, in fact, two asteroids orbiting each other that have comet-like features. These include a bright halo of material, called a coma, and a long tail of dust. Hubble was used to image the asteroid, designated 300163 (2006 VW139), in September 2016 just before the asteroid made its closest approach to the Sun. Hubble’s crisp images revealed that it was actual...

In the first act of lunar exploration, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were major characters. In setting its sights on the Moon, ESA hopes to bring many more actors to this off-world stage. By testing the market for transport services to the Moon, ESA aims to push the limits of technology and create new models of space business. Touching down on the Moon was a monumental moment in human history. Eight short years and enormous resources took humankind to the lunar surface, initially for le...

Astronomers have used ALMA to capture a strikingly beautiful view of a delicate bubble of expelled material around the exotic red star U Antliae. These observations will help astronomers to better understand how stars evolve during the later stages of their life-cycles. In the faint southern constellation of Antlia (The Air Pump) the careful observer with binoculars will spot a very red star, which varies slightly in brightness from week to week. This very unusual star is called U Antliae and...

The Sun's recent activity has caught the interest of scientists and space weather forecasters worldwide, highlighting the need to keep a watchful eye on our star and its awesome power. On 6 and 10 September, our Sun produced a pair of solar flares, the strongest observed in over 10 years. They were accompanied by huge eruptions of billions of tonnes of matter into space. While many such eruptions fall back onto the hot surface, these two did not and became 'coronal mass ejections' (CMEs) -...

NASA's Hubble Space Telescope has observed a planet outside our solar system that looks as black as fresh asphalt because it eats light rather than reflecting it back into space. This light-eating prowess is due to the planet's unique capability to trap at least 94 percent of the visible starlight falling into its atmosphere. The oddball exoplanet, called WASP-12b, is one of a class of so-called "hot Jupiters," gigantic, gaseous planets that orbit very close to their host ...

    CV

I’m Nuclear Engineer 58 years old, with a solid preparation in this field provided by a curriculum studiorum of ten years length and consisting of both diploma (5 years) and Polytechnic degree (5 years) in nuclear physics and plants.

Due to Italian political choice performed in 1979 of not pursuing the national nuclear plans for electric energy production and in spite of my extended education in this discipline, I had to revert to other technological fields along my professional career.

My professional career, 37 years long, started in 1973 and includes different activities.

    Career Summary:

During the degree studies I taught five years electronics, atomic physicsand nuclear laboratory in a secondary level school.

After the Polytechnic degree I spent the first five years of my career at FIAT Research Center (C.R.F. S.C.p.A.) as design engineer, mainly involved in projects devoted to electronics and engine control in the automotive field, where I gained wide experience in HW/SW design of microprocessors based control and regulation systems.

I spent the following seven years at Società Italiana di Avionica (SIA S.p.A.) as system engineer in the aerospace field, both in civil and military areas. I was involved in many international aerospace programs that gave me the opportunity to interact with European and US industries and international organizations and agencies (ESA, NASA, EC, ALENIA SPACE, BOEING, BRITISH AEROSPACE).

Beginning 1991 to nowadays, I managed my own firm “System Design and Research Association” (SYDERA s.r.l.), founded with the aim of providing advisory services in the aerospace field and performing industrial research & innovation. Key areas of activity have been avionics/software engineering applied to satellites, launchers and space station modules, including both individual tasks and engineering teams’ coordination. Finally I have been responsible for SYDERA quality system development, management and maintenance, certified by RINA organization.

During these last 20 years, I acquired a good knowledge of research, development and production programs’ life cycle, developing the capability of facing with all programs’ ancillary topics like standards, norms, programs’ specific documentations and contractual conditions, helped by a strong background in multidisciplinary technical fields.

I am skilled in the management and coordination of teams and firms’ pools (I coordinated the activity of a pool of firms and research institutions in the framework of a FP6 Program) and a valuable experience as Proposal Manager, both in the Institutional and commercial environment (e.g. ESA, EC, Italian Ministry), for research, study and development programs. (Sydera won a few tenders and good marking was obtained at TEB outcome following several tenders).

I am able to interface with people at all level in the industrial and institutional environment as I participated to stages, reviews and space conferences both in Europe (ESA, DASA - now ASTRIUM, BAE) and in the United States (NASA, Boeing Aerospace, MIT, UCLA).

I have good aptitude to human relationships; in addition, good general education and good mood together with a solid scientific and technical preparation allow facing problems of complex nature with toughness, determination and effectiveness.

Looking forward to receive Your welcome feedback.
