    Education History

University of Glasgow, Glasgow, UK                                      Graduation: July 2010

    MEng Aeronautical Engineering                                              Grade: 2:1

Modules include:  Aircraft Vibration and Aeroelasticity, Flight Dynamics, Physics of fluids, High Speed Aerodynamics, Aircraft Structures and Materials, Space Flight Dynamics, Aircraft Systems and Control, Flight Testing, French, Law for Engineers alongside both individual and group research project work.

SupAero, ISAE (Institut Superieur de l’Aeronautique et de l’Espace), Toulouse, France.

Final year masters project (January 2010 – May 2010): I spent five months working in the department of aerodynamics and fluid mechanics at SupAero, project detailed below.

    Individual Research

Fourth Year Individual Project: Investigation into shock wave/boundary layer interaction (SWBLI) and design of synthetic jet actuator to combat negative effects of such interactions.

Final Year Masters Project: Detailed research into the effects of side-winds on bluff body road vehicles before carrying out an experimental investigation in the wind tunnel to visualise such effects. This investigation involved the use of a previously developed scale model representative of such vehicles and flow visualisation techniques such as PIV (particle image velocimetry). The use of an aerodynamic balance was also incorporated to measure the forces on the model as it passed through a gust and the results of the two techniques compared. The project gave me an in-depth insight into road vehicle aerodynamics as well as extensive experience of the wind tunnel and practical measurement techniques.

    Other Interests

Travelling– Alongside my studies in aeronautics travelling has been one great passion of mine. Working throughout term-time has allowed me to spend my summers exploring areas of the world including Europe and parts of Asia and Africa. I love exploring other cultures and meeting new people. These experiences have kept my mind completely open.

SportSport is the other big passion in my life. I played badminton competitively through school and university and am a keen skier and surfer. Three years ago I was selected for the GB Rowing “Start” programme - a high performance development squad geared towards the 2016 Olympic Games. I train every day with the other members of my group and compete every year at a number of domestic, national and international events including the Scottish, French and British Championships. Last year I was also selected to row for the British Universities team in Amsterdam at the European University Championships, and am a member of the Scotland national squad. Competitive sport has taught me a number of important lessons including how to cope with pressure situations. I have become very disciplined and organised as every day I deal with the great demands of high-level sport, as well as the inevitable ups and downs that come alongside it.

    Additional Skills

    • Fluent French
    • Advanced people skills developed through promotion and modelling work.
