Operations and maintenance of Ku-band, EKu-band and C-band VSAT networks and DCME network over VSAT, Fiber and Microwave supported by a team of 6 engineers in Kabul and 10 engineers in remote cities. Total of 75 satellite SCPC links, 5 Hubs and 20 VSATs.
Troubleshooting & rectifying VSAT problems in the GSM environment to ensure maximum network uptime for GSM voice and data traffic.
VSAT network monitoring and troubleshooting using Spectrum Analyzer Agilent E4408B ESA - L Series (9 KHz – 26.5 GHz) and VSAT NMS such as NetMAC, Dataminer, etc.
Interaction with various satellite operators such as Eutelsat, Eurasiasat & Intelsat for satellite link design verification and analysis, satellite link troubleshooting, testing & commissioning and ESVA tests.
Interaction with various SATCOM vendors for VSAT equipment & bandwidth proposals, and quotations. Vendor-wise review of proposals, quotations and technical evaluation.
Payment follow up of satellite bandwidth fees to various vendors
Updating VSAT & DCME equipment databases for inventory control and spares management. Maintaining up-to-date VSAT and DCME domestic and international network drawings for voice, data, internet and signaling.
Preparation of VSAT outage reports and graphs on monthly basis for determining VSAT network availability and for taking corrective measures to minimize the downtime. Interacted with different departments on daily basis to analyze and solve VSAT related trouble tickets.
VSAT Capex and Opex forecasting & future plan preparation on basis of company’s business strategy and goals.
Training of VSAT team on new Satcom products and DCME equipments on regular basis.

Installed and commissioned 1.8m, 2.4m and 3.8m Ku-band VSATs in Afghanistan for SCPC satellite voice links during the first and second phase of Roshan’s GSM mobile service launch in remote cities of Afghanistan like Ghazni, Logar, Gardez, Khost, Takhar, Laskargah, Waish, Adraskan, Faizabad, Maimana, Uruzgan and Ghor.
Installed and commissioned SCPC satellite links for international gateway for voice and data traffic between Roshan (Afghanistan) and British Telecom (UK) and between Roshan (Afghanistan) and MGI (Switzerland) for Roshan.
Installed, configured and deployed DCMEs (Digital Circuit Multiplication Equipments: I-Gate 4000 Edge units) in Afghanistan for inter-city domestic and international voice connectivity thereby reducing the number of satellite / fiber links required between cities. By compressing the voice to 10:1 on the I-Gate units, the satellite bandwidth and fiber lease cost was reduced to 1/10th.
Core member of successful project for installation and commissioning of two 6.3m Ku-band Hubs in Afghanistan in Kabul and Mazar cities for GSM network expansion and redundancy.
Core member of successful project for installation and commissioning of 5.6m & 4.5m Ku-band Hubs and four 3.7m Ku-band VSATs in cities like Herat, Kabul, Kandahar, Zaranj, Farah and Bamiyan for GSM Network expansion in Afghanistan. This project was also the part of Ku-band VSAT network (72MHz) migration activity from Satellite Turksat 2A to Eutelsat W5. After the migration, there was a savings of USD 1.1 million over the period 3 years.
Coordinated important project for the migration of Ku-band VSAT network (100MHz) from Satellite Eutelsat W6 to Lyngsat Express AM-1. After the migration, there was reduction in the E1 per month cost from USD 15,600 to USD 9,600. Annual savings of USD 1.89 million on satellite bandwidth.
Managed important project for installation and commissioning of one 4.5m C-band hub in Kabul and two 3.7m VSATs in Mazar and Herat in Afghanistan for inter-city voice signaling redundancy on satellite links. 8E1s were installed and commissioned on the C-band VSAT network.
