To whom it may concern
I would like to express my interest for a position as thermal design engineer.
I am currently employed as thermal design engineer at SunSpace & Information Systems (Pty.) Ltd., South Africa.
As thermal design engineer I have done extensive thermal modelling in the Systema environment, Thermica and its solver Thermisol. This ranges from concept evaluation to full in-orbit simulation of an entire satellite with orbit manoeuvring, movement of mechanisms and internal heat dissipation. I thus consider myself competent regarding the thermal modelling of satellite and satellite components in a space environment.
Currently I am responsible for the correlation of in-orbit thermal data with simulated results of the Sumbandila satellite (launched on a Soyuz-2.1b rocket on 17 September 2009). This includes inter alia the entire thermal re-modeling of the Sumbandila satellite, identifying and evaluating telemetry data, generating a power flow-diagram off all major components, determining satellite attitude and operation mode for optimal thermal correlation.
As co-author of the in-house “Guidelines for satellite system’s thermal modelling” and “Standards and procedures for satellite system’s thermal testing and reporting”, I am familiar with the ECSS documentation regarding Thermal control, Verification and Testing.
I look forward to discuss this opportunity in person and am available for an interview at your convenience.
Sincerely,

Attributes
As thermal design engineer at SunSpace I have done extensive thermal modelling in the Systema environment, Thermica and its solver Thermisol. This ranges from concept evaluation to full in-orbit simulation of an entire satellite with orbit manoeuvring, movement of mechanisms and internal heat dissipation. I thus consider myself competent regarding the thermal modelling of satellite and satellite components in a space environment. As co-author of the in-house “Guidelines for satellite system’s thermal modelling” and “Standards and procedures for satellite system’s thermal testing and reporting”, I am familiar with the ECSS documentation regarding Thermal control, Verification and Testing.
As thermal design engineer at GEA I interacted with international and national clients on a weekly basis, liaising between sales engineer, proposal coordinator, manufacturing, client and the rest of the engineering department. This experience honed my ability to manage complex engineering problems, work in a team environment and contributed to the further development of my people skills.
My post graduate subjects include computational fluid mechanics, numerical methods, advanced heat transfer, industrial heat exchanger design, boundary layers and linear algebra. My computer literacy also includes FORTRAN, MathCAD®, Visual Basic®, Excel®, MS Word®, Matlab®, Mechanical Desktop®, SolidEgde®and HTRI Xchanger Suite®.
I was privileged to have the world-renowned Prof. D.G. Kröger as co-supervisor of my M.Sc. thesis. Through his mentorship I learned that (i) complex problems should be solved in a systematic manner, (ii) resilience and patients are required to deliver quality work, (iii) always give attention to detail and (iv) understanding the fundamental laws governing an engineering problem is essential and will lead to better solutions.
