    Executive Manager.

Head of the Environmental Applications Department (EAD) at Advanced Computer Systems (ACS) SpA – Italy

The department, which counts 5 permanent specialists + additional 8-12 resources allocated on project basis, develops ICT solutions for Earth Observation from Space, Maritime Safety and Security and Traffic Control, Environmental and Disaster Management applications.

Main customers include European Space Agency (ESA), EUMETSAT, European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA), EU Satellite Centre, National Space Agencies Worldwide, Civil Protection, European Union, Public Administration, insurance companies.

Activity of Program Manager includes (see below for activities as Project Manager):

    -          Resource management within the EAD optimising resource usage and delivery timeliness, management of conflicts and project risks.

    -          Business development; coordination of technical/commercial offers in response to ITTs company promotion with public speeches in international symposia;

    Main activities and responsibilities

Project Manager (expect where otherwise specified) in the following projects(only main projects are quoted, from most recent to oldest):

    12/2010 ongoing

EMSA (European Maritime Safety Agency) Integrated Maritime Data Environment (IMDatE). The project aims at federating all the Enterprise IT business services into a unique SOA based system, which handles dynamic data for 100.000+ ships worldwide, with the objective of improving the quality of services offered towards maritime safety. These include search and rescue, coastal traffic control, anti-piracy, oil spill monitoring, etc. The project is developed in coordination with CLS, as a subcontractor. Frame Contract budget (currently the EMSA largest) is about 4 MEuro.

    11/2009 ongoing

EMSA(European Maritime Safety Agency) Clean Sea Net Data Centre (CSN-DC): it is a 4 years frame-contract for the development of a modern Data Centre mainly focussed at monitoring oil spill pollution. CSN-DC is currently a leading project in EMSA aiming at integrating multi-source heterogeneous data, in order to coordinate the whole EMSA workflow. ACS has proposed a technical solution almost entirely based on the end-to-end PDGS solutions currently installed in the main Space Agencies world-wide. ACS is prime contractor of an international industrial team, which includes GMV. Frame Contract budget is about 2 Meuro.

    09/2009 Ongoing

ESA DUE DesertWatch-E: extension of the DesertWatch project (see below), to include African and Latin America countries in the analysis of desertification. ACS is prime contractor of an international consortium.

    11/2007 – 04/2010

ESA User Service Next Generation (USNG): the project aims at fully redesigning the new generation of ESA user services (e.g. 3D web catalogue, automated ordering and follow-up, CRM, etc.). It represents the precursor of the ESA User Service in the Sentinel 1/2/3 and GMES Coordinated Data Access era. Besides introducing innovative technological data access paradigms, USNG integrates the ESA DAIL and exploits the HMA protocol for a multi-provider multi-platform EO data access. ACS was prime contractor of an international industrial team.

    04/2009 – 04/2010

EUSC Reference Facility (RF): EUSC-RF is a multi-phased project aiming at modernisation of the EUSC Centre, for improving capacity and efficiency of early warning and crisis monitoring. Through adoption of modern interoperability standards, e.g. OGC, HMA, Reference model for Distributed Processing, BPEL Orchestrator, the RF system allows EUSC migration from an individual set of desktop applications, managed independently, towards a coordinated centre-wide Workflow Management System. ACS was prime contractor of an international industrial team.

    02/2007 – 04/2009

    ASI (Italian Space Agency)

Volcanic/Seismic Risk Decision Support Systemsfor the Italian Civil Protection (proposal manager and system engineering): these 2 projects, aim at implementing EO based integrated information systems for real time monitoring and management of geophysical risks, as a service supply for the Italian Civil Protection Department. ACS was prime contractor of a consortium which includes the National Research Council and the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology.

    09/2004 – 09/2008

ESA DUE DesertWatch: user oriented application for combating desertification using Remote Sensing and GIS analysis tools. ACS was prime contractor of an international consortium.

    02/2003 – 02/2006

EUMETSAT EPS Calibration Validation Facility(proposal technical leader and system engineering): development of the Calibration Validation facility for the EUMETSAT EPS Metop mission. ACS was prime contractor of an international consortium.

       10/2002 -10/2006

RIADE: new technologies for combating desertification, in which ACS developed 3D visualization, analysis and modelling tools. This large RTD project, involving a team of 100+ engineers and researchers, integrated multi-source heterogeneous data types (EO data, in-situ measurements, meteorological information) and implemented new 3D displaying paradigms. The project was carried out in consortium with ENEA and University of Sassari. The project was financed by the Italian Ministry of University and Research.

    10/1997 – 10/2002

ESA Envisat IECF (Instrument Engineering Calibration Facility): ESA project for the in-flight calibration and validation of the Envisat-1 instruments. ACS was prime contractor. Responsible for the development of the Calibration processor for the ASAR instrument. During this phase 2 years were spent directly in the ESRIN offices (for integration activities) and 4 months in the ESA ESTEC offices (for supporting the commisioning phase)
