I have a degree in astronomy in addition to my electrical engineering degree and have always been keenly interested in and proficient in the mathematics involved in celestial navigation.     A technical services company providing science and engineering support for space science projects and the Global Precipitation Management (GPM) project at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.

     

    Staff Engineer - Prepare test and integration plans and procedures for the Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) subsystem of the GPM spacecraft using the Advanced System for Integration and Spacecraft Test (ASIST) command /control system. Conduct tests and provide support/backup to other S/C subsystem testing and integration. Participate in observatory environmental testing and work with GNC subsystem during environmental testing, verification, and launch preparation. Built database for IRU and RWA telemetry and commanding.

     

    Science Systems and Applications, Inc. (SSAI), Hampton, VA 3/2009-6/2009

    A technical services company providing science and engineering support for space science projects and the Climate Absolute Radiance and Refractivity Observatory (CLARREO) at the NASA Langley Research Center.

     

    Systems Engineer - Plan and prepare assembly, integration, test, and launch operation flowcharts and hi-level schedules for the CLARREO spacecraft to be presented at the Mission Concepts Review (MCR). Participate in reviews and provide inputs for trade studies and architecture pre-phase A CLARREO concepts and design to be presented at the MCR.

     

    Northrop Grumman Space Technology (NGST), Suitland, MD 2007-11/2008

    A major space corporation providing the spacecraft hardware and launch/operations support to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for the National Polar Orbiting Environmental Satellite System (NPOESS)

     

    Spacecraft Analyst - Write Recommended Operating Procedures (ROPs) for the planned launch, on-orbit, and contingency operations of the NPOESS Preparatory Project (NPP) spacecraft. Participated in test and validation of CECIL scripts created for the ROPs, using ECLIPSE command and telemetry system and Flight Vehicle Simulator (FVS). Trained on FVS operations and configuration setup for the Integration and Test network. Wrote CSTOL scripts for the OASIS C&T system on UNIX workstation for operations/control of the FVS.

     

    Honeywell Technology Solutions, Inc. (HTSI), Dulles, VA 2004-2007

    A technical job service corporation with contracts to provide spacecraft mission operations support to the University of Colorado Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) and the Aeronomy of Ice in the Mesosphere (AIM) project.

     

    LASP AIM Resident Engineer at Orbital Sciences Corporation - Provide technical assistance and operational support to the Orbital Sciences Corporation (OSC) AIM engineering team for integration and testing of the AIM spacecraft. Represent the LASP AIM program operations management staff in the OSC environment. Convert Systems Test and Operations Language (STOL) scripts to Colorado STOL (CSTOL). Edit and test CSTOL scripts. Operate the CU LASP Operations and Science Instrument Support (OASIS) command and control (CC) system for spacecraft test and integration. Work with the AIM flight software team to modify, test, and verify flight software commands and telemetry. Manage the OASIS command and telemetry database. Modify and edit the database tables as required by AIM subsystems and instrument teams.

    • Converted STOL scripts used on a previous LASP space mission (SORCE) to AIM CSTOL scripts to be used on OASIS-CC system. Edited, tested, and verified the scripts for use in OSC flight software testing and integration.

    • Participated in AIM launch preparations at VAFB launch site and on-orbit checkout operations at LASP mission control April and May, 2007.

    • Manage schedule for action and deliverable items to/from OSC and LASP. Submit weekly report on status of actions and deliverables to LASP and OSC staff engineers.

    • Completed two months of OASIS and CSTOL operations and AIM spacecraft training on-site at the CU LASP facilities in Boulder, CO.

     

    Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), Pasadena, CA 1996-2004

    Research and development laboratory of the California Institute of Technology that is NASA’s lead center for the exploration of the solar system using robotic spacecraft, planetary probes and land rovers.

     

    Space Flight Mission Control Engineer, Spacecraft Operations - Mission Controller (ACE) in spacecraft flight operations. Monitor and control real time spacecraft telemetry passes with the JPL Deep Space Network. Manage tracking and pass coordination with network remote stations, Data Control and DSN operations staff, and other DSN users. Maintained, telecommunications links with spacecraft and ground stations, troubleshooting as required. Interface with project system/subsystem and science/instrument teams. Build commanding sequences and transmit commands to spacecraft and Mars surface rovers. Monitor and analyze spacecraft and station data to verify uplink/downlink performance. Led the power sub-system planning and real-time operations for the Cassini spacecraft. Analyzed command sequences for power load requirements. Built command sequences for pyro and power specific activities. Integrated with and supported other spacecraft sub-systems and instruments in sequence generation and anomaly resolution.

    • Wrote the Mars Exploration Rover (MER) Mission Control Team Uplink and Commanding Procedure, used as the official document for commanding the MER spacecraft and rovers.

    • Mission Controller for Mars Exploration Rovers (MER) and the Galileo/Jupiter Probe missions. Performed command and control operations. Monitored Uplink/Downlink performance and managed Network Operations and Deep Space Network remote stations.

    • Lead Engineer Cassini/Saturn/Titan Probe Power Subsystem, Spacecraft Engineering Operations.

    • Created and wrote the Cassini power team monitoring and reporting procedure which has been used as the official document to define the Cassini power team real-time operations requirements and duties.

    • Performed user acceptance testing of the Cassini power predictor software tool and documented test results for use in evaluating the ability of the predictor tool to meet functional requirements.

    • Trained new Cassini power personnel in operation of power tools, monitoring of real-time telemetry, and power sub-system functions and requirements resulting in the power team having certified and trained representatives for power analysis and operations.

    • Performed initial analysis of Cassini red-alarm telemetry requirements. Developed a red-alarm package that identifies any power telemetry channels outside stable/acceptable limits.

    • Updated procedures for operation of the Common Allocation Scheduling Tools (CAST) for the Multi-Mission DSN Allocation and Planning Team (MDAP).
