Senior software Engineer and Database Administrator in the Science Archives Team, whose main role is to provide service to scientific missions by developing the science archives, an easy access to mission data for the scientific community worldwide.
Ø Main task to design, develop and maintain software components (Java) for the importing and ingestion of mission related data into multiple archives, with special focus on XMM-Newton Science Archive (XSA) and Herschel Science Archive (HSA).
Ø Participating actively in the development (Java/Spring/Hibernate) of the Archive Building Systems Infrastructure (ABSI), an effort from the team to create a common and reusable infrastructure, both in data and software, across different archives.
Ø Protocol and interface definition between XSA/HSA archives and Data Processing teams for the data delivery and ingestion requests mechanisms.
Ø Development of web-based administration tools (JSPs/Java/Struts) for XMM and Planetary Science archives, for the management of ingested scientific data, user related information, dataset access permissions and archive usage statistics.
Ø Implementation of mission-specific algorithms to determine the proprietary rights for accessing data.
Ø Design and maintenance of data repositories, the place where all mission data is stored within the archives and from where it gets distributed to the community via the Science Archives.
Ø Responsible for the development of ingestion software (Java) of XMM EPIC Source Catalogue and Slew Survey Catalogue.
Ø Key role in the database group, performing the design, modelling and administration of multiple relational databases (PostgreSQL/Sybase/Oracle).
Ø Set up, design and administration of HSA database (PostgresSQL), used as part of the chain for the daily operations of the Herschel Data Processing team.
Ø Database administrator of XSA database (Sybase). Set up, design and administration of re-engineered XSA database (PostgreSQL). Migration of database content across different RDBMS.

ZINGO (MANGANESE BRONZE HOLDING) – London, UK

Software Developer
Java/J2EE Developer in this project from the makers of the famous London Black Taxi. Zingo used GPS technology and the phone location service of the caller's network operator to locate the nearest available taxi. The passenger was then automatically connected to the driver's hands-free mobile phone.
Ø Implementation of multi-threading message servers (Java/JMS/Weblogic), processing messages coming from different sources: mobile operators, taxi GPS units and credit card payment systems.
Ø Development of an application (Java) to pinpoint the GPS position of a mobile device, using the location based services provided by the biggest mobile operators in the UK (Vodafone, Orange and O2), and calculate the nearest taxis available with different algortithms.
Ø Implemented system monitoring tools (Java/Swing/RMI) technologies to provide real time positioning information.
Ø Set up a cluster of Weblogic Application Servers, where JMS queues and EJBs where deployed, in order to allow failover and system upgrades during operations without affecting the service.

In this 2-player game, it was introduced the possibility of making the computer be one of the players by using Artificial Intelligence techniques.
Ø Implementation of Artificial Intelligence module (Java), using backtracking algorithm to create a tree in memory and then decide the next best move by using specifically design heuristic functions.
