PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
EADS-CASSIDIAN, Munich, Germany • 2009-Present
A division of EADS dedicated to defence business.
Communication System Engineer
Participated in a cancelled Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) project, developing Narrow Band (NB) datalinks and voice communication system design, including the system architecture. Selected the best options for all NB subsystems. Gathered supplier information in collaboration with Procurement.
Developed an airplane equipment installation strategy with Airframe personnel. Reported directly to the Communications System Leader.
· Designed the audio chain that consisted of V/UHF radio specification, audio electrical interfaces and integration with Ground Segment.
· Contributed to System Requirements (SDR) and System Design (SDD) documents, as well as to NB Comms SRD and SDD documents.
· Developed Purchase Technical Specification (PTS) of NB Comms equipment and NB Comms System Installation Requirements Documents (SIRD).
· Passed the Preview Design Review (PDR) of external assessors that made the Communication System the 1st to pass.
· Met all physical limitations and budget requirements with an accurate selection of designsolutions after trade-offs.
INTA, Torrejon de Ardoz, Madrid, Spain • 2005-2009
A public company belonging to the Spanish Ministry of Defence dedicated to R&D in aeronautics and space.
Communication System Accountability
Coordinated engineers for the design, integration and testing of the UHF, S-Band and X-band communication system for the Nanosat 1B and Microsat satellite programs. Managed the detailed electronic S-Band and X-Band design. Chose the architecture of the subsystems in line with system specification and design constraints in cooperation with the System Engineer. Selected the electronic devices in alignment with space requirements with Quality and Procurement departments. Designed the electric schematics and PCB, testing the first subsystem prototypes in collaboration with Assembly, Integration and Test (AIT), Mechanical Design and Quality Assurance departments. Integrated these with the rest of satellite subsystems before integrating the system into the satellite, sending it to Kazakhstan for validation and launch (29.07.2009).
Supervised the UHF radio frequency, digital modem and power supply design, and reported the schedule and design status to the program and department heads. Presented the Communication System in 2 PDRs and 1 CDR, and produced proposals for public funding. Oversaw the activities of a 5 to 7-member team.
· Successfully designed the 1st ever Spanish company UHF and S-Band system for satellites that included transceivers, modem and antennas. Successfully designed an X-band transmitter prototype (upconverter and 10W HPA).
· Managed the digital modem design, also a first for a Spanish company utilising state-of-the-arttechnologies (FPGAs).
INDRA ESPACIO S.A., Barcelona, Spain • 2003-2005
A large company dedicated to several businesses, including a Space Division.
RF Engineer
Provided RF header design support and installation for the AMERHIS Gateway project for the European Space Agency, designed to interconnect satellites with terrestrial networks. Developed the link budget.
Developed design and test documents. Installed and tested the antenna and microwave devices.
· Served as a member of the team that developed the 1st multimedia satellite communications system.
