    “Effect of Transition Model on Numerical Simulation of Unmanned Combat Air Vehicle (UCAV) Pitch Divergence.”

     

    External aerodynamics and pitch divergence phenomenon associated with UCAV-1303 design has been analysed under this project. CFD simulation methodology using Turbulence and transition modelling has been developed under this research.

    Ø  Reynolds-Averaged Navier–Stokes turbulence and transition modelling was carried out to analyse aerodynamics associated with aircraft exterior designs.

    Ø  3-D geometry creation, High fidelity 3-D Structured Computation Grid was generated by ANSYS- GAMBIT. CFD simulation is been carried out using ANSYS-FLUENT.

    Ø  Validated CFD results with Wind Tunnel experimental results to optimise design and CFD simulation process.

    Ø  Secured Distinction in research work.

     

     Group Project:

    “CFD Simulation for Wind Farm Siting in Complex Terrain”

     

    CFD Methodology for Turbulence modelling for aerodynamics associated with wind farm siting at complex terrain has been developed under this project. ‘WindSim’ commercial software was studied to simulate this real world problem to finalise wind turbine locations in order to maximise turbine efficiency.

    This project has been completed at Thermax India Ltd, India. Thermax India Ltd is leader in Boiler and HVAC industry.  The key objective of this project was redesigning of Bobcock & Wilcox (B&W)boiler in order to optimise heat transfer efficiency using CFD technique.

    Ø  I developed boiler tube configurations using Pro-E Wild fire 3.0 which further discretised using 3-D Hybrid mesh with commercial software ANSYS-ICEM.

    Ø  Laminar and Turbulence CFD simulation of boiler tube configurations is performed to analyse Heat transfer. Commercial software ANSYS-CFX is used for this research.

    Ø  Results verified with experiments carried out in the laboratory.

    I worked as a part of an Innovation & New Product Development Team during Industry year responsible for redesigning of B&W boilers for industrial and commercial applications. My responsibilities as an intern included:

     

    Ø  Design and development of bespoke products in boiler industry, CFD and FEA simulation of newly developed boiler systems and structures to analyse for heat transfer, resolving fluid flow issues & structural analysis of B&W boilers.

    Ø  Tetra, Hexa and prism meshing of Fluidised Bed Combustor Boiler designs, Simulation result analysis for the same  using PRO-E, ANSYS-ICEM, ANSYS-CFX.
