2007- 9/2012: Research engineer at ICTEAM Institute at École Polytechnique de Louvain, Belgium, collaborating in projects funded by the European Space Agency, ESA, and by the European Commission, achieving the following aims:
- Belgium delegate in the ITU-R SG3 (International Telecommunications Union, Radiocommunication Sector, Study Group 3) from 2009 to 2011. Acquiring knowledge of Recommendations, Radio Regulation and the application of Satellite Notification Procedures.
-Participation in the ESA/ESTEC project “Propagation analysis tool for design of fixed and mobile multimedia systems”, to develop a web based tool that produces the link budget propagation parameters for Geo and non-Geo satellite telecommunications systems with fixed, mobile and aeronautical terminals. The tool includes trophospheric, ionospheric, environmental and interference effects, analysis and comparison of models with real propagation measurements according to ITU-R SG3 recommended testing variables and experimental data from ITU-R SG3 Databank.
-Participation in European Cost Action IC0802 project “Propagation tools and data for integrated Telecommunication, Navigation and Earth Observation systems”.
-Participation in the European Defense Agency project “ICAR, Intelligent Control of Adversary Radio Communications”. It aims at providing an integrated response to the needs of intercepting, localizing, monitoring and selectively blocking an adversary mobile communications, with reduced collateral effects, in multi-path environments as urban or mountain areas.
-Participation in the ESA/ESTEC 19873 project “Global Archive of Propagation Measurements for Satcom Systems”, for the creation of a Global Archive with data collected during Land Mobile Satellite and Satellite Aeronautical experimental campaigns. My contribution to this project was to analyze, to structure and to process the ionospheric, tropospheric and mobile data to after insert them in the Global Archive database.
-Participation in the ESA/ESTEC P1090779 project “Mobile Propagation Databank”, to derive statistical results from Global Archive of Propagation Measurements for Satcom Systems datasets, for submission to the ITU-R SG3 databank.
-Participation in the ESA/ESOC project “Site Selection for the ESA Third Deep Space Ground Station” to support ESA on the optimal selection of the site for the installation of the third ESA deep space antenna. My contribution to this project was to study the availability of the transmission link in the region, evaluating the total atmospheric attenuation and the attenuation due to specific effects (gaseous, cloud liquid and rain attenuation, tropospheric scintillations). This study was based on models defined by the ITU Recommendations.
-Participation in the European Commission FP6 project “STARRS” (Sensor for Terrestrial and Airborne Radio transmitter Rescue Search). The aim of this project is to create a system to detect, locate and rescue people in danger through their basic cellular radio terminals. My contribution to this project was to develop attenuation channel models for rescue scenarios as collapsed buildings, forest on fire, at GMS, UMTS and TETRA frequencies.
2006: Research engineerat ONERA (Office National d’Études et de Recherches Aérospatiales, Electromagnetism and Radar Department) in Toulouse, France. Developing a model for the prediction of satellite signal impairments in urban environments.
2004 - 2006: Research engineer at Signal Theory and Communicationsat Escuela Tecnica Superior de Ingenieros de Telecomunicacion, Vigo, Spainparticipating in the following projects:
-European Commission FP6 project “ANASTASIA” (Airborne New and Advanced Satellite Techniques & Technologies in A System Integrated Approach).This project aims to carry out research; evaluation and cost benefit analysis to define communications and navigation new technologies and new avionics architectures suitable for aircraft operation in the future satellite-based European Air Traffic Management environment. My contribution to this project was to simulate the electronic hardware performances of the Inmarsat satellite communication system.
-Project “SPIRIT” (Intelligent Positioning System in Telecommunications Wireless Networks), designing a positioning systems that work inside buildings by using a WiFi network. Project funded by VigoUniversityand the Regional Government.
2011: PhD Degree in Engineering Sciences at the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies, Electronics and Applied Mathematics, ICTEAM, École Polytechnique de Louvain, Belgium.
