    AIT Senior Mechanical Engineer for Telecoms Payload and Propulsion System Projects – Assembly, Integration and Test Department.

    AIT Senior Mechanical Engineer: Astra 2G (SES)
    March 2012 - February 2013

    Appointed as AIT Lead Mechanical Engineer for Astra 2G Telecommunications Satellite, the last of a Multiple Satellite contract for SES.
    Overall technical responsibility for the mechanical assembly and integration activities from project kick off to completion.

    Main Project Responsibilities: -
    Operations Director to all critical handling activities of the payload including the coupling of Communications Module sections and controlling of all MGSE.
    Author Assembly and Integration procedures, resolve mechanical build issues and provide technical documentation and information for non conformance reporting and lead resolution.
    Monitor schedule in line with mechanical progress, providing cleanroom technicians with precise priority reports ensuring mechanical status achieved and ready for test.
    Configuration of mechanical documentation and build records at project completion, provide technical notes for transfer activities with kit definition and flight/test status of the payload ready for  receipt in TLSE, achieving delivery 1 week ahead of schedule and coupling to the spacecraft within 24 hours of delivery.

    AIT Senior Mechanical Engineer: Bepi Colombo HPRA (ESA)
    March 2010 - February 2012

    Lead AIT Mechanical Engineer for the Bepi Colombo High Pressure Regulator Assembly (ESA); A mission to research the planet Mercury, to lead all Assembly, Integration and Test activities for the High Pressure Regulator Assembly, forming part of the Mercury Transfer Module (MTM), regulating the propulsion for the mission.
    The project breakdown consisted of three build and test phases including a Life Test of the Valve to be used on the HPRA, Engineering Qualification Model (EQM) and Flight Model (FM).
    Mechanical activities included precision sizing of components, orbital welding, precision cleaning,  sub assembly manufacture and integration and wiring of the unit harness.
    Testing included Proof Pressure, Internal and External Leakage Tests, Vibration and Shock and Thermal Vacuum with functional testing (electrical and mechanical) carried out through each phase of operational regulation testing.

    Main Project Responsibilities: -
    Author Assembly & Integration Procedures and Test Procedures, presented to customer at IRR's and TRR's.
    Design and Create High Pressure Test Set-Ups schematics providing optimum test set-ups.
    Ensure Assembly and Test Equipment is fit for purpose and calibration requirements are met ensuring constant workflow and schedule is not impacted.
    Design Project specific tooling (MGSE) for the Mechanical Assembly and Integration Activities including welding and alignment tooling.
    Validate and Operate EGSE to certify fit for purpose, setting of flight parameters and carry out testing of the HPRA.
    Plot, Sign Off and Present Tests results to Project for Verification.
    Provide technical support at IRR's, TRR's and Non-Conformance Reviews.

    Took over AIT Project Management responsibilities, presenting directly to the Department Head and Front Line Managers; responsibilities included: -
    Producing project schedules.
    Present project costs to date and estimate until completion.
    Present resource requirements and forecasts in the forward load.

    AIT Senior Mechanical Engineer: KaSAT
    September 2009 - February 2010

    AIT Lead Mechanical Engineer for KaSat, one the most complex satellite builds carried out at Astrium at the present time. Responsibilities Included: -

    Responsible for controlling the alignment activities of position critical pre-coupling waveguides, driving the activity through to completion, ensuring tooling access (MGSE) is achieved and instruct modifications as required.
    Supported and carried out critical coupling activities and payload movements through to project completion, supporting shipment activities and post shipment integration activities.
    Lead Investigations and Provide Technical Support to quickly and efficiently resolve mechanical build issues and author re-work documentation.

     Project Design and Production Engineer - requirements and responsibilities: -

    To execute technical aspects of the development of new and innovative mechanical designs from concept to manufacture.
    To perform tolerance and assembly studies on all components to ensure they will assemble correctly.
    Produce first off of new products, re-design / re-development areas required to improve end product performance or manufacturing process.
    Design, Manufacture and implement tooling to improve manufacturing processes.
