Summary
After designing and implementing more then 160 different ERP systems and solutions as a "one-man-team" for customers ranging from multinationals to small businesses from 1990 to 1999, it was time to move on and gain some international experience in working as an Architect/Developer, Data Warehouse Analyst and Core Team Leader for Teradyne/Tollgrade for telecoms all over the world (mostly active in Europe).
Since 2010 active as a Team Leader, Consultant and Software Architect for Trasys at the VITO (Flemish Institute for Technology Research) on the ESA PROBA-V Project (satellite image processing for the European Space Organisation).
My ambition/passion is to create new innovations and solutions, manage projects, lead teams and inspire/assist colleagues and customers in finding the most effective and efficient solutions, realize the solution and maintain high standards so that all 3 (Client, Employer and Employee) are satisfied.

Work Experience
04 '10 - . . '. . Trasys - Hoeilaart : Team Leader (Sr. Software Architect/Developer)
As a consultant, I'm located at the VITO (Vlaamse Instelling voor Technologisch Onderzoek = Flemish Institution for Technological Research) in Mol, and I'm responsible for designing and implementing the software architecture and solution for Image Quality Control of the Satellite Image Processing from the ESA PROBA-V satellite (to be launched in the second quarter 2013), and currently maintaining the Processing Kernel for images of the SPOT4 and SPOT5 satellites.
Small team.
Major Responsibilities:
- Meetings with Customers 10%
- Software Architect of Solutions (C++/STL) 80%
- Coaching of developers 10%
Accomplishments:
- Algorithms implemented from mathematical formulas and implemented 3 different methods: "brute force", "cache" and "cache2", where the same output each time was achieved, but with "cache2" only taking 1/10of the execution time of the "brute force" implementation.
- Review and optimization of the 'compositor' where one big image was created from hundreds of small images (tiles) : Reduced execution time from 1 hour to 10 minutes by removing excessive 'C++ casting' (together with Tom Van Roey), next introducing an intermediate step with a hash table for optimization on usage of images which reduced the execution time from 10 minutes to 1 minute 10 seconds. Result: Overall execution reduced to about 1/60 of original.
- Different modules for Image Quality Control : Masking (Cloud, Cloud Water, Cloudy Neighborhood, Coast Distance, Dilate, Geometry, Homogeneity, NIR Reflectance, Sun Glint, White Caps), Statistics (Analysis, Spatial Averaging, Trending Analysis, Histogram), Calibration Methods (Rayleigh, Clouds, Sun Glint, Desert, Dark Current, Camera to Camera, Multi Angular, Spectral Resample), Miscellaneous (ROI extraction, Range Calculation, Resample, Relative Azimuth)
- Usage of gdal, HDF5, ENVI.
Extract from Work experience:
- Got 'congratulations' on the design and code written for Image Quality Control in a code-review from ESA. References:
