    RESEARCH  INFORMATION

     

    Summary

    The main concept of my research is the representation of the image by homogeneous image regions, called blocks. This  representation scheme is called Image Block Representation (IBR). The most important characteristic of the IBR is that a perception of image areas greater than a pixel is provided to the machine and, therefore, all the operations on the pixels belonging to a block may be substituted by a simple operation on the block.

    The development and implementation of new algorithms on block represented images, leads to the reduction of the required computational complexity.

    I developed fast algorithms for low and high level image processing and analysis tasks, such as image shift, scale and rotation, edge extraction, area measurement, connected component labeling, logic operations, fast thinning, fast parallel skeletonization, real-time moment computation etc.

     

    I have been participating in a number of research projects and applications, specifically:

    Development of OCR and OMR systems (document segmentation and CR).

    Medical imaging (MRI). The goal was the extraction of prior information from low resolution images, in order to omit MR scans and reduce the scanning time.

    Robot vision applications.

    Morphological and CL operations.

     

    Also, I developed imaging algorithms to a systolic hardware architecture called Scan Line Array processor.
