    ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY (EMC)  

    System level EMC Management/Control & Design of  both Military & Civil equipment ranging across Rail, Naval, Aircraft and Spacecraft  Systems & Sub-systems. Projects I have had Prime level EMCresponsibility for include the Principal Anti-Air Missile System for use on the UK T-45 Destroyer and the French/Italian Horizon class Frigate and for the following spacecraft: GALILEO (FOC),  HUYGENS, MSG, SGEO (Hispasat 1), EDRS, ARABSAT, NAHUEL & SIRIUS this included the use of "NASA Space Charging Program" (NASCAP) for the prediction of Spacecraft charging at Geostationary orbit. Preparation of Top Level (Prime) EMCdocumentation & participation in PDR’s,  CDR’s MRB’s, TRR’s, TRB’s etc & other Project related meetings. Writing of Proposals and System, Sub-System & Equipment EMC/ESD Control Plans, EMCstudies and Analysis documentation on a wide range of Aircraft & Space projects (both Military & Civil, with frequency bands of interest typically including HF, VHF, UHF, S, L, C & K bands). Generation of & review of (Sub-Co) Qualification Test Procedures and subsequent post trial reports. EMCanalysis of Satellites & Aircrsft at system, Sub-System & Equipment level. Computer aided Simulation using "SPICE".

     Specification of filtering and module/PCB layout. Trouble-shooting both in the field and in the laboratory. Responsible for System/Sub system level testing of HUYGENS Probe (Flight & EM models) and MSG (Meteosat, Second Generation). Generation of final (System Level) EMCRequirements Control Document (RCD) & EMCVerification Plan for SMART-1, a small scientific mini-satellite developed by the Swedish Space Corporation in Stockholm for ESA. EMCAnalysis of two experiments for use aboard the Columbia & American Modules on the International Space Station (ISS). EMCResponsible on numerous aircraft sub systems, including, Head Up/Down Displays, Air Data computers, Cabin Pressure control systems & power control systems on Military aircraft such as EFA, Tornado, EH 101, Saab Grippen. & various commercial aircraft including Boeing, Airbus, McDonnell Douglas & Embraer Aeroplanes. Experienced in the analysis of, and the  design against, Lightning Strike effects on both Military & Commercial aircraft. & the usual effects of CE, CS, RE & RS (HIRF) EMCrequirements.

     Responsible for organizing and supervising Space & Aerospace EMC trials in the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland & Sweden. Fully conversant with SSP57000, SSP30237/38, Mil-Std-461/462, Nato STANAGS, Def Stan 59-41/411, PANAVIA SP-P-90003, RTCA DO 160, EFA SPE-J-000-E-1000, Airbus, McDonnell Douglas, European Space Agency (ESA), NASA and various Satellite and Aircraft derived EMC & Lightning specifications including the European harmonized standards..

     NUCLEAR EFFECTS

     Supervision & evaluation of all nuclear trials carried out on a Microprocessor based Fuse Setter, including : EMP, Neutron/Gamma radiation, Thermal Flash & Blast. Produced "Hardware Assurance Design Document (HADD)" for Aircraft Air Data Computer (JAS-39). Involved complete analysis of circuitry with regard to Radiation & EMPhardness.

     SYSTEMS DESIGN/INTEGRATION

     Definition, design and integration of Multiplexed Passenger Entertainment, Movie/Video, Service/Flight Interphone and Aural Warning Systems aboard aircraft such as DC-9-80, DC-10, Airbus A300, A310 & A320. Design of Electronic Counter Measures (ECM) equipment, the systems operated in the HF, VHF, UHF, and Microwave frequency bands.

     HARDWARE DESIGN

     Experienced in the design of analogue, digital and microprocessor based circuits for the Military/Aerospace markets.

     TEST EQUIPMENT

     Experienced in the definition of production tests to be carried out on both sub unit logic boards and fully assembled units of microprocessor based systems, also the specification and design of the Test Program Set (TPS) used for testing the APUElectronic Controller used on the F/A-18 aircraft.

     FLIGHT SAFETY ANALYSIS

    Analysis of both Hardware & Software updates to the Tornado Mk 3 Missile Management System (MMS) to determine any safety implications to the system. Both single and dual fault scenarios were considered.

     Languages: Fortran, Pascal, Basic Operating Systems: UNIX, VMS, MS-DOS PC Based Packages: Windows, Wordperfect, Word for Windows, Excel, Lotus, Supercalc, PSpice, NASCAP, Orcad, Mathcad, Designer, Autosketch etc, etc.
