    Summary

    (Senior) Software Engineer with over 15 years experience in the Space Industry.

    I have been involved in many projects among other for the European Space Agency (ESA), Airbus (UK, DE, SP and FR) and Thales (IT and FR). I’m accurate and quality driven in the work I do and in the interaction and support towards the customers.

     

    My main area of expertise is in the understanding, architecture, interfaces and development of Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) systems software (Visual/GUI and Non-Visual) including the Control & Monitoring interface towards Central Checkout Systems.

    Projects ranged from Control and Monitor systems, Spacecraft Interface simulation & test, Data acquisition, storage and processing, Level Zero product processing, data distribution, Power Interfaces, SpaceWire, Mil-1553B.

     

    I have held different positions & responsibilities, ranging from Software Team Manager, Software Engineer, System Engineer, Product Responsible, and Software Test engineer. Additionally I provided technical leadership and mentoring (project) team members.     2012   Present: Senior Software Engineer / Software System Engineer @ SSBV Space & Ground Systems

     

    • European Data Relay System – Modem & Baseband Processing Software
      Development of the Modem & Baseband Processing Software.
      • During this period involved in User Requirements Analysis and translation into Software System Requirements, Detailed Design & ICD, Implementation and Test of the software modules.
      • UML notation was used for the Design Documentation, using Use Case Diagrams, Class Diagrams, Activity Diagrams, Sequence Diagrams.
      • Partially responsible to keep track of the software implementation from a system point of view (and beyond) to meet the customers needs.
      • Responsible for the development of software modules: System Logger Service (disk and syslog rfc5424 distribution) and Reporting Service (XML PKI Reporting). These modules are both written in Qt/C++, they both include the following aspects: requirements & design documentation, unit tests, VectorCAST/Cover reports (test coverage), software metrics reports, and buildserver configuration.
      • Participation in meetings and teleconferences for milestone reviews and technical discussions/workshops.

    • CMDVS Product Line
      Product responsible and lead engineer for the SSBV product line/suite CMDVS, which stands for “Control, Monitoring, Data processing and Visualisation Software”. This software is the core EGSE software interfacing to (SSBV) Front-End Equipment and Back-End Systems (data processing, controller systems) from partners and customers.
      • Further maintenance, development, design and testing is done and used in many project solutions (EGSE, SCOE, Suitcases, CCS, TM/TC...) used for satellite integration, test, and simulation.
      • The development is done in Embarcadero XE6 (Delphi); some parts in C++
      • Upgraded from BDS2006 compiler to modern Embarcadero XE6.
      • Consolidated and improved the interfaces to the back-end software, i.e. (Third-Party & Partners’) Test Sequence Controller application that includes Data Processing and Front-End ‘API’ libraries, tcl & uTOPE scripting possibilities, TM/TC PUS ASCII MIB database.

      • Developed application layer on top of the module drivers responsible managing control interface from (remote) higher-level Control and Monitor Software application.
    • Design and development of Front End application software (Windows) to control & monitor Power Front End (SSBV product) units. The communication interface was based on RS-232 and later upgraded to LAN using an ASCII protocol.  The FE Control and Monitor Software is developed in Delphi, including a GUI for the end-user and an integrated test environment for automated test possibilities.
    • GPIB / LAN Control & Monitoring with Automation and Test Equipment (Keysight/Agilent, Rohde & Schwarts, Keithley, …)
    • Implementation of communication libraries / class using C++, such as GPIB, RS-232, telnet.
    • EGSE development for Beagle 2 Mars Lander
      • Developed interface drivers and test facilities for on-board chip in C/C++ using low level register access instructions.
      • Development of high-level Control & Monitor Software for two different EGSE systems to test the different instruments on the Beagle 2 lander, developed in Borland C++ & Delphi.
    • Continuation of the development / maintenance of in-house software libraries and components, used as reusable components in other software applications. This is done in both C++ and Delphi, including documentation and unit testing.
    • Development of various ‘Remote Interface’ application software. This software fulfills the role of a ‘communication bridge’ between users’ Central Checkout Systems and the SSBV EGSE system (e.g. Power Front End, Mil-1553 Front End, SpaceWire Front End). Various protocols are implemented using Borland Delphi 5 and 6.
