    COMPLETED PROJECTS:

    • Space Mission Feasibility Study, Phase A “ARMONIA: Aerial Platforms for Mars Exploration”

    (March 2014 – August 2014)

    Description: Feasibility study of a complete mission to Mars (from Launch to Disposal) intended to deliver distributed sensors on the surface and collect high resolution ground and atmosphere data flying on extended regions for prolonged period.

    Role and Deliveries: Team Leader and Thermal Engineer, design of the TCS of the orbiter segment, the entry vehicles, the ground station and the flying segment. Design of super-pressure Balloons for the aerial exploration: flight dynamics and thermodynamic numerical models.

    Skills acquired: Familiarity with ESA-ECSS standards. Extended use of Matlab, Simulink and the Simscape tool for Thermal Systems. Deep understanding of the TCS design problem in a large number of mission scenarios and acknowledgement of the active/passive thermal hardware. Improvement of problem-solving skills, both in individual and in team work, oriented toward optimization at both subsystem and system level. Fruitful experience in a multi-cultural team of eight. Ability to efficiently present the final report to an audience of Space Engineering professionals.

     

    • Numerical simulation of MEO Satellite Attitude Dynamics and Control

    (October 2013 – February 2014)

    Description: Numerical implementation (Matlab) of the governing models of the Attitude Dynamics of a dual spin satellite in MEO orbit for Earth Observation purposes. The study included the numerical simulation of the main sources of orbital and attitude perturbation and the implementation of the use of sensors and actuators in the aim of designing an efficient system for the attitude determination and control.
