    CV

    PERSONAL STATEMENT

I am a young nuclear engineer graduated at Università degli Studi di Palermo, Italy. Now I am attending a Specializing Master in Space Exploration and Developments Systems. Due to my studies, I am willing to work in the space sector as a radiation engineer both for radiation protection of human and for electronic components. Furthermore, I am also interested to become a Radiation Protection Advisor  for ground application.

    EXPERIENCE

March, 2015 – In progress / Internship at Thales Alenia Space: First phase of Master SEEDS’ Project Work

I am attending an intership at Thales Alenia Space Italia for the Specializing Master in Space Exploration and Development Systems The aim of the internship is to design the pre-phase A of a human mission to Mars, and in particular an orbiting station around Mars, plus two spaceships to ascent and descent from Mars. At the beginning, my role involved the definition of the mission, performing functional analysis of the system, the concept of operations and drafting of requirements. Now, I am dealing with ECLS system of the orbiting station. I have performed analysis of the logistic needs of food, water and air, a trade-off to determine the closure of the loop and then an evaluation of different technologies of the system. In addition, I have performed analysis of the radiation shielding, considering the utilization of consumables of the station as food and water.

    June 1, 2014 – March 1, 2015 / Traineeship at RedCat Devices Srl

Sector of receiving enterprise: Privately held european fabless semiconductor company involved in several fields of research concerning both volatile and non volatile memories for special applications, as for example space applications.

Programme of the traineeship: Realization of a shielding for gamma irradiation of an analogic to digital converter. Application of ESCC Standards 22900 and ASTM Standards E1249.

    February 16 – March 1, 2014 / Erasmus Intensive Programme SARA 2014

Erasmus Intensive Programme (IP) “Safe Application of Radiation and Radionuclides” - SARA 2014 – Centre d'Étude de l'Énergie Nucléaire (SCK-CEN), University of Hasselt and JRC-IRMM (Geel).

Most important course contents: Activation analysis; dosimetry in radiation protection, radioactive waste monitoring, neutron spectrometry and dosimetry; 2 days course at JRC-IRMM: practical training on the safety constraints, measurement of neutron cross sections, use of modern electronics and detector system
